Re: Optik TV Bulletin Board: Discover, Discuss, and Develop
Our experience has been beyond awful. At this point we're thinking of moving to Shaw if you guys can't fix it ASAP and give us something for having a whole month of constant issues that make our tv unwatchable.. This new box is RIDDLED with issues from day 1, it clearly hasn't been tested properly. You should've never rolled this box out without actually testing it 1st and having it pass some real customers live testing it (while obviously getting paid or something for trying out a beta system). This is just just plain negligence tbh, it costs so much for TV nowadays and to have it not work the way it should and be inferior to your older boxes FROM 10 YEARS AGO... You clearly just bought them and rolled them out to new customers telling them it was the latest and greatest thing.. j There are just SOME of the issues we've encountered (copy and pasted from a post I made): - It consistency has corrupted recordings that were fine an hour before but I walk away to say have dinner or walk my dogs and come back and they have error msgs.. - it's deleted ALL of our saved recordings twice - you can't record something more than once per day and you can't extend recordings for example we mainly record sports so for Rian delays, OT, etc - it has stuttering issues that aren't fixed on restart - you can't save recordings longer than the default 45 days - you can't record the same show on more than 1 channel - You have to manually go thru the guide and find what you want to record and the guide takes forever to load and just says "info unavailable" for like 20-30secs - The search function is just broken it only shows a few options and when you try "view all" it shows completely random content (example you search boxing and randomly it'll show Thomas the train, random reality shows, Disney Channel kids stuff, etc) And now to top it all off, it's completely broken. Started not being able to play anything in Netflix, it would open but when I'd go to play something Netflix said there was an issue with the box and to reset it. Tried that multiple times, checked internet connection in the Netflix app and on my computer and that's fine, it's just the box. After resetting over and over trying to fix Netflix I gave up, but now it can't play ANYTHING. Not even any channels live tv or recordings we have saved. Keep getting this error code when I try to do anything: ERR_PLAYER_P210 This is completely unacceptable, every post I see on here or Reddit or tech forums about the new Telus 4k boxes is awful. Our old non-4k box that I had from 8 years ago worked fine and never had issues with recordings, could extend them, record on multiple channels, search and record, etc.. (if you can't tell we mostly PVR stuff because we're big sports lovers but are too busy so PVR is 1 of our biggest complaints because we use that like 80% of the time we use our tv)41KViews9likes0CommentsAnyone else having major issues with new 4k Optik TV Box?

I'm having the same issues as a new customer. We're going to ask to get their old 4k box bc the new one is clearly not tested properly. The big problem I've run into already on the 1st day of use is the new PVR system is a massive downgrade from the old box. Basically what I've noticed is that the new PVR UI puts every show/series/program under 1 header.. and because of that and bad UI programming it only lets you PVR that show on 1 channel, if you try to change the channel it will delete the previously scheduled recordings on the other channels through the UI. Also once you set up that show to record on that 1 channel it can only be set up to record once per day, it's listed in the options but when you click on it it won't change because it has no other options to change to. It also still lacks simple options that our 10 year old box had like adding extra time to the end of a scheduled recording in case that program ran late, like for sports if there was overtime or a weather delay. You CAN get around the limiting UI to record the same show on multiple channels, but to do this you need to manually go through the channel guide to record your shows ahead of time. Sort of a pain and defeats the purpose imo of the new cleaner UI if it just adds more steps for the same functions the old hardware had. Personally I think this is a massive oversight and just bad programming/design of the software on the new device by Telus. I have no idea how this wasn't brought up as an issue in testing before releasing this to their customers. The new added benefits of the new system like being able to talk to my remote doesn't out-weight the downsides with PVR imo. I'm hoping they can address these issues in a firmware/software update in the near future because at this point if there are not any new plans to update this system I'm probably going to ask to be changed back to the old tv box if possible. In my case, my partner and I almost exclusively use our TV for PVRing sports since we're too busy to be home all the time when our favourite sports are on and we're huge sports fans, so for us this is a huge deal because it's what we use our Optik system for 90+% of the time. I hope this gets seen by Telus support or devs because it's a major issue that should be fixed before they roll out this system to all existing customers! Honestly though, if you're someone with the old system who uses PVR a lot I'd hold onto your old hardware until these issue are addressed!7.1KViews7likes2Comments
