I should really be specifying this more clearly "Jays home games" since only home games at the skydome are filmed in 4k hdr as far as i am aware and likely why this is a non issue on the road. To me it just looks telus is not handling the incoming hdr signal properly. It almost looks like it should be in HDR, but telus devices are not triggering hdr settings on our tv's. To me it looks exactly like the picture when telus boxes output sdr colors in hdr. Some conversion is going wonky between rogers and telus and I just dont see rogers bending a knee to telus if no other provider has this problem, I think telus will need to be proactive and trying to adjust/address this on their end. If this was widespread across providers telus might have more of a case taking a stance asking rogers to fix it, but with the problem seemingly between telus and rogers for jays games I think telus needs to look into how to correct this. Yes that is correct I believe only rogers home games are actually filmed in 4k hdr. Road games are probably just regular broadcast upscaled on the channel. KHR i understand this point of view, but considering bell customers seem to not have this issue as far as I am aware it must be something different on telus end. I do understand what your saying since it just started happening, but something is not quite right between the roger color space and telus now, and I dont think rogers will have any incentive to change it back if its a non issue on other providers.43Views0likes3CommentsRe: TELUS TV Feature Updates - Ongoing
Yeah if it was a rogers upscaling issue we would have massive complaints across providers as many people are following the blue jays this time of year. Seems to be only present on the new telus optik system, I will double check the old optik system my parents have but I dont think its an issue on that one either. Thanks. That does make sense and was a possible thought of mine as well. It did look similar to the telus boxes before match dynamic range was implemented where it would send sdr signals incorrectly as HDR. Dont know if thats whats happening here. Not sure what rogers is doing but it was bad, the red electronic billboard behind home plate had an advertisement and it looked completely unnatural. I did wonder if perhaps they started airing jays games in HDR and telus maybe is converting it back to SDR and something is not being handled or tone mapped properly? Im just guessing though, but I did not think I noticed it a few weeks ago so I figured something must have changed. Oddly my avr and lg oled reports bt 2020 as the colorspace on those channels, no other channels report that even tsn 4k. I am not quite sure what is going on, i watch on an nvidia shield which has worked great, I think it runs android 11. Recently the app updated and now watching the blue jays game vs yankees on the 4k channels the colors are all wonky. A severe red push has suddenly appeared its unbearable. Im not sure what is going on. From what I can tell did you guys try to add HDR support for 4k channels? The red push during the yankees jays game was just awful. I notice the signal is trying to show hdr but it is not switching my LG oled to HDR at all. I dont know if thats causing the issue, I have never seen the shield not switch to HDR when watching hdr content from netflix, plex, ect...so something is weird with the telus app and this last update at least on the shield. It looks better once the game is over I believe, so not sure if the game is airing in HDR, but my lg oled is not switching into hdr mode on the shield, and I have never seen that before. The post game show looks better on the same channel so I dont know whats going on. I have never seen a BT 2020 program not auto switch my tv to hdr on my oled. This is the first one. And again it looks better on the post game show at least. Thanks for clarifying, I was wondering that I don't really use the android Telus box but seen it moved from android 10 to 12 so I was not sure if that was just the update for the box or there was also more under the hood changes for the app as well. Thanks for clarifying.4.7KViews0likes0Comments
