Email problem
I use a third party email service because it offers much better spam detection, and I am having a problem with this new Gmail platform. Gmail changes the From: address from the address I supply to the "telus.net" address. Most email servers use the Return Address, but when a Gmail user replies to one of my emails, it uses the From: address. The reply email gets sent directly to my Telus address instead of the third party address. Because of the way Gmail handles POP3, I had to configure the third party service to forward email to 2 separate accounts, so emails replied to through Gmail never get sent to the second account. I have Gmail configured to use the Return address I supply, but that does not help with Gmail users. Does anyone have a way around this problem? J.A. Good feedback. Even though the page displays the Telus name, it is actually part of Gmail and comes from a Google IP address. The reason I could not find information on it is because I was searching for Telus simplified access instead of Gmail simplified access. The page loads in less than half the time of the standard access, but does not support Chat, Spell checker, Keyboard shortcuts, Adding or importing contacts, Custom "from" addresses, and Rich formatting. Since I only use the browser version for deleting messages, it made sense for me. J.A. Coutts5.5KViews1like1CommentSimplified Telus Email access
If you disable JavaScript and you attempt to access Telus email, you will receive this feedback: ************************************* JavaScript must be enabled in order for you to use telus.net Mail in standard view. However, it seems JavaScript is either disabled or not supported by your browser. To use standard view, enable JavaScript by changing your browser options, then try again. To use telus.net Mail's basic HTML view, which does not require JavaScript, (Click Here) If you want to view telus.net Mail on a mobile phone or similar device (Click Here) ************************************* If you click on "To use telus.net Mail's basic HTML view, which does not require JavaScript" you will receive a much simplified Telus page. Once you get to that page, you can copy the URL and add it to a web link which will activate much quicker than the normal access through Gmail. That explains it. I used to occasionally access my wife's old Gmail account, but it kept popping up in unwanted places, so I disabled it. I block scripts except for places I trust, and Google isn't one of the places I trust. I think signing out of the Telus Gmail when I need Google maps is less painful. Just another pain in the butt caused by this email migration. J.A. Coutts64KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Can't access Google Maps any more!
Thanks Nighthawk. That actually works. I had a hunch that it was something like that, so I signed out of Google Search. I only use the browser to access Gmail to delete messages, so I did not consider having to sign out of it too. I suppose I will have to go through the listening to music routine to try and get Telus to enable it. This is BS. For those that are unfamiliar with oAUTH2, you actually stay logged into Google, and authorize the Gmail API to access your mail through a token that is stored as a cookie. That is why Google prefers you to access Gmail through a browser. Google Maps is just another API that has to be authorized, but I have never had trouble accessing it until now. J.A. When I attempt to access google maps, I get this message: " "We are sorry, but you do not have access to Google Maps. Please contact your Organization Administrator for access." . When I look it up on Google help, it says that I need to log into the Admin Console and allow access. But when I attempt that, it says that I don't have access to the admin account because it is a G-Suite account. Just another email migration hick up. J.A. As I explained, the phone call did not do the job. It was not the helpers fault; he simply did not have the technical knowledge of how Gmail worked internally. In an attempt to get to a more technical person, I escalated the issue on Feb. 11, 2021. The response I got was "In regards to your email, unfortunately we cannot offer a callback from our Technical Support at this time". So on Feb. 19, I responded to the email complaining about the lack of support. This time I got a callback, but once again the helper did not have the technical knowledge to address the issues, and said she would have to get back to me. Through a trail & error process, I was finally able to resolve the 2 remaining issues, and on Feb. 27 sent the results back to Telus for their information, thanking them for doing nothing. J.A.
