Email from Telus: Update your password to improve your security
Howdy! I received an email from Telus lately, containing the following; Your password no longer meets our security guidelines. In our continued effort to make your experience with TELUS safe and secure, we are asking you to reset your password before you can access your account. To reset your password, go to Forgot your password and click on "Send my password reset email". As a TELUS customer, you get exclusive access to EverSafe™ security features designed to help safeguard your privacy and personal information. We will update you as we continue to launch these new features. Learn more about TELUS EverSafe Thanks, The TELUS Team Is this email legitimate? If so, can you tell me why a password in a roughly similar format of XXXXXX#xxxxxx!0000 isn't "good enough" for Telus? Like, seriously? I'm still able to access MyTelus and Telus Connect apps on iOS fine, so I'm a bit confused. Thanks for your help, have a wonderful day!Solved9.8KViews0likes10CommentsRe: T3200M Minecraft port forwarding
Ages ago I grabbed the list of ports for minecraft from portforward.com, whether those extra UDP ports are required today or not, I haven't checked. With your WAN address being 100.82 it means your connection is being natted. In this case, known as CGNAT or NAT444 meaning you aren't able to port forward. It's like having a router plugged into your router, but in this case telus has put your router(modem) behind their router. You have a few options to deal with this; 1) Do nothing and just live with not being able to port forward or host anything. 2) Get a VPS somewhere and use wireguard to tunnel (thereby forward ports) to a computer on your network. 3) Try this: https://forum.telus.com/t5/Internet-Home-Phone/WAN-IP-is-not-a-true-public-IP/m-p/112967#M27464 If you go for option 3 good luck and be patient with your agent, they'll likely have no idea what you're talking about.21KViews0likes0CommentsRe: T3200M Minecraft port forwarding
I'm able to successfully port forward minecraft with the following entries in the port forwarding section of the T3200M; 25565/25565 TCP minecraft.computer.ip 25565/25565 25565/25565 UDP minecraft.computer.ip 25565/25565 19132/19133 UDP minecraft.computer.ip 19132/19133 Obviously minecraft.computer.ip will correspond to the ip address of the system you're running the mc server on. If you already have this all set up I'd check to see if your "Modem IP Address" (T3200M's home page, left side) doesn't start with 100.64 through 100.12721KViews0likes2CommentsRe: WAN IP is not a true public IP
I found a solution to this today, it's what worked for me so your mileage may vary: I received the following advice from someone else: "Call TELUS. Tell them you are having problems with your connection being on NAT444 and you would like it changed back to NAT44." When you call in and explain the issue further do NOT mention port forwarding. This will cause the agent to deem your inquiry as out of scope. For example, I explained friends could no longer play games with me. I explained it was like being on a xbox with strict nat, except that I play on a computer. The following is how I obtained a solution and where it may vary for you: The agent wasn't able to change the NAT444 setting, they did not confirm nor deny they even had access to it. The agent then involved network support (internal support team that only agents have access to), as the agent was unable to control my modem. (And of course they couldn't, because they were trying to control the IP I was natted behind.) Network support wiped my QOS profile and recreated it. Whether the setting for NAT444/44 was in there or not, the agent would not confirm nor deny. After re-creating my QOS profile, they had me reboot my modem. It came back up with a public IP. The agent then explained to me that if I ever had the problem again, I could call in and ask to have my "QOS profile" recreated. Theoretically this shouldn't ever be a problem again, unless someone at telus changes the profile sometime in the future. This solution likely only applies to hard wired connections like DSL and Fibre. I don't believe it will work for LTE Hubs. It may take you multiple calls to Telus to get this sorted. The agent I had today that managed to solve the problem was my 4th, so be patient, most importantly be kind and good luck!16KViews4likes0CommentsRe: WAN IP is not a true public IP
I recently went from Internet 75 to Internet 25 and that process switched me from a true public to a CGNAT IP. I spoke to telus support about 4 times and they all swore the CGNAT IP was public and everything was fine according to their network support team. I learned elsewhere that Telus some time ago had quietly started employing CGNAT for Internet 6 connections and lower so I imagine in this day and age Internet 25 and lower or Internet for Good accounts are being lumped in with the undisclosed CGNAT limitation. Chances are customer support is clueless that this is happening, especially when their network support team is telling them that the 100.80 IP is public (even when the rest of the internet knows it isn't). The people I spoke with at Telus didn't have any options for me to purchase a public address and if you type "public ip" in at Telus' online chat support window thingy it'll reply with "Currently, TELUS residential services do not support port forwarding. If you require port forwarding, a static IP through our business plans may be more suited for your needs." If you need port forwarding about the only way you're going to be able to do that is use a third party service/solution. For example, I signed up at AWS (free for 12 months) and used a linux virtual machine to create a tunnel back to one of my machines here with wireguard. Now I use the AWS IP to remotely view my security camera for the few times a month that I actually need it. I can understand from a business perspective on CGNAT and lower tier internet service, especially with IPV4 space being empty, I just wish Telus would admit to it instead of sticking to the "100.80 is a public IP" script.17KViews2likes2CommentsAfter plan downgrade T3200M modem/wan IP isn't public
So, a couple days ago I was downgraded from a bonded copper Internet 75 plan to single copper Internet 25 as that's the maximum allowed under the Internet for Good program. Prior to the downgrade I had no issues and for the context of this post no issues with port forwarding. Now that I'm on Internet 25, the modem ip address is showing up as 100.81.xxx.xxx which to me indicates that I'm being natted (as 100.64.0.0 - 100.127.255.255 = carrier grade nat addresses). I've called tech support 3 times and each time I'm told that 100.81.xxx.xxx is a public address, and that residential accounts all have public addresses. On two occasions the tech support agent spoke to their internal network support agents and they had indicated that this was indeed a public address and nothing is wrong. However, the outside internet can't communicate with a 100.81.xxx.xxx address, thus breaking port forwarding for my security camera and disallowing friends to connect to me for games I host with them. For fun, I decided to plug the second phone line into the t3200m and when I do that I get a real public ip for the modem. The problem with that is when trying to use the internet it keeps forwarding me to registerdevice.telus.com and then errors out. I assume that line is also not meant for use as it negotiates with DMT to give me 3 down and 0.8 up instead of VDSL2 with 40 down and 7 up that the primary line enjoys. (Both lines are capable of 55/10 and would negotiate at 44/10 on the bonded 75 plan.) I've reset the t3200m to default at least 5 times and left it unplugged overnight to force an IP change, however it still keeps receiving a 100.8x.xxx.xxx address. I even bridged port one and connected another router and it too received a 100.8x.xxx.xxx address. I should note while the modem ip is 100.8x.xxx.xxx, whatismyip.com shows me a proper public ip address. When I enable WAN PING RESPOND I can ping that proper ip address from a command prompt locally, but I cannot from anywhere else on the internet. When I disable WAN PING RESPOND I can no longer ping said proper ip address. It's like the modem is grabbing an internal 100.8x.xxx.xxx address and also the proper public ip address but somehow only binding the internal one to its wan interface, if that makes any sense. Because the second line gets a real public IP, I assume the t3200m isn't at fault and that this is either some strange misconfiguration on the primary line or perhaps Internet for Good clients are being natted. Does anyone here have any ideas on this? Thanks in advance!2.3KViews0likes0Comments
