Re: Gigabit Fibre Internet with 4 Boosters Randomly drops to sub 2Mbps speeds on Wifi - HELP
I don’t have a great suggestion for you, (I use eero) but yes it is possible for a misbehaving device to tank network speeds. Sometimes this can happen even if the device doesn’t have your wifi password. For example there is an IoT chipset that will sometimes try connecting to a nearby network for which it doesn’t have the password. It does this so quickly it effectively causes a wifi authentication attack, blocking service for legitimate clients. If I were you I’d turn off one of the boosters and leave it off until it happens again. If you get the slow speed, try turning off a different booster. Turn off as many clients as possible too and see if you still have the problem. This is probably not going to be too fun if it’s a rare problem.3.5KViews0likes0CommentsRe: PureFibre ipv6 own router issues
You need to send a periodic router solicitation every so often to keep the route alive. Telus aren’t obeying the RFC on this and as far as I’ve seen only a couple of other ISPs in the world do this, so it doesn’t work with most routers out there except the newest Telus provided ones. If you can add a cron job and build a binary that runs on your router fixing this is pretty easy. Edit: this only applies to some Telus neighbourhoods. I think most don’t have this behaviour but it does happen in north van and parts of Surrey I think.8.4KViews1like3CommentsRe: What is the difference between Internet 300 and Gigibit Internet?
Gaming doesn’t generally require a lot of bandwidth except when downloading a new game or an update. It’s much more important to have low latency and a reliable connection. If you’re noticing problems it’s much more likely to be wifi related, and upgrading your internet connection won’t help with that. For your work it shouldn’t make much of a difference either, even if you’re using a remote desktop. Even the highest tier Netflix video uses about 25mbps, so with your current tier you could have 12 4K streams going before you’d notice any slowdown.2.6KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Is there a link/list of SFP transceivers used by Telus in Edmonton?
My understanding (possibly incorrect) is that the SFP must be provisioned to set up some kind of encryption or authentication keys, and you wouldn’t be able to do that yourself. Even if you can just swap in your own somehow, what do you hope to achieve by doing this? I certainly understand wanting to replace the router and using your own for many different reasons, but I don’t see any reason to do so for the ONT apart from “because I can”.4.3KViews0likes3CommentsRe: No IPV6 in building from 2010 with Optik
Telus’s IPv6 is not yet reliable everywhere. I’ve been contacting them for two years on and off to get it fixed but it doesn’t seem to be a high priority item for them. Their mobile network still doesn’t support it. My recommendation would be to just disable ipv6 and wait until it’s actually necessary.2.1KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Does the Nokia ONT that Telus uses for fibre support multi-gigabit internet?
There are threads on other forums from users that have gotten it single stream 1.5gbps working, but it requires some specific switch/router hardware that happens to work with the SFP module at 2.5gpbs.7KViews0likes0Comments
