They did announced it on TV saying that it was provider initiated shut down. You can find more info if you Google it. The official line is: The Discovery Channel is not shutting down, but it is rebranding as the USA Network on January 1, 2025. This is part of a realignment of Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) networks in Canada, which also includes: Oxygen: Replacing ID, which will focus on true crime CTV Wild: Replacing Animal Planet CTV Nature: Replacing Discovery Science CTV Speed Channel: Replacing Discovery Velocity The rebranding is intended to broaden the scope of the Discovery Channel to include more entertainment programming.
