Death of Mother / Telus Home Security
My mother has been paying for a home security system for probably more than 20 years. It started as ADT and Telus bought the company, mailed her new window stickers and continued to collect her monthly fee. Fast forward to now. My mother died, and when I tried move the service to my name to continue coverage on the house I was told I’d have to replace the equipment because it didn’t work (it does, I learned that the hard way!) However they don’t have service people in Digby and the only solution was to have it sent to me to install. Since I live in Ottawa this wasn’t a solution, and the reason I need security. After many long conversations with sales reps and service people it was decided the equipment could stay. Telus accepted my September payment and then in October, arbitrarily cut off service, without notification, except a statement, held up by the postal strike for a month. When I contacted them to see about it, I was told there was an outstanding payment, which I would have to pay before reinstating the account. Did that. Then back to customer service, to reinstate the account. And back to the old your equipment doesn’t work you have to install new equipment yourself routine. Still in Ottawa people, the old equipment still works… and if it doesn’t work, why did you collect payment on it since you acquired ADT. Feels like fraud. They hung up on me. Three times.
