How to hide network but keep Optik TV running.
Hi. I have a Ubiquiti gateway and access points now running and all my network traffic goes through there. The Telus/Actiontec router is now used used exclusively for running Optik TV. As an aside: I know there is a way to migrate the Optik TV connections to the Ubiquiti gateway, but since I cannot figure out how to change the wireless network the Optik boxes connect to, I am just leaving the Actiontec running. The problem is that sometimes - usually as a result of my trying to optimize the Ubiquiti system, one or more devices in the house lose their connection and fall back to the Telus network that is still broadcasting because they still retain that connection information. And that ends up causing all sorts of troubleshooting chaos, because often I don't know that the device has switched over to the Actiontec network. I thought to turn of the WiFi radio, but of course that killed the signal to the Optik TV wireless boxes. I can hide the SSID, and did so once, but actually getting back in to control the Actiontec then becomes a difficult task requiring a wired connection to the box. So, what's the best solution? Go to each client device and tell it to forget the TELUSXXXX network (if that is possible on the device)? Change the SSID? Change the password? The down side of either of those is that if the unit gets reset then I need to do the same. Is there some way to turn the radio power down on the Actiontec? Or is migrating Optik TV to the Ubiquiti network the way to go... though I would probably end up having to hard wire the boxes (since changing the wireless network may not be possible)? Any insights appreciated!487Views0likes0CommentsUbiquiti (Dream Machine SE), second ONT Port vs Splitter... and POTS
Hello. We have a Nokia ONT, and we have a Telephone 'land line' connected to that (POTS port). We have the ActionTec T3200 and Optik TV. I'm adding a Ubiquiti Dream Machine SE. Ultimately I would like to ditch the ActionTec, or perhaps use it as a Basement Suite network - though maybe keeping it all on the DMSE is better(?). Questions: 1) The optik fibre could go direct into the Dream Machine. However, I think the only way to maintain the POTS service is with the Nokia ONT, correct? 2) Somewhere on these forums I read that you should be able to get 2 network addresses assigned (one for the T3200, one for the DMSE); I tried connecting the DMSE to the second port on the Nokia - no luck there. So, the only remedies are either the use of a switch immediately out of the ONT Port 1, or Daisy Chain through the T3200 (with Bridge Mode enabled) to the DMSE. Is that correct? 3) Somewhere on these forums I recall reading that some folks got their Optik TV to work over their Ubiquiti device by enabling IGMP (service? protocol?) in the Unifi settings (not that I know what that is or where to find it). Is that correct? Thanks!985Views0likes1CommentHow to get latest hardware… maybe
We’re nearing the end of a very long renovation. The house has been wired with new cable. There’s a line running to the garage. Our Actiontec router and the Optik TV PVR etc have not been hooked up for over a year. the Nokia Fibre box has been in use in order to keep the alarm system happy. The alarm system is so old it needs to be trashed, but anyway… I would like to end up with 3 or possibly 4 wireless networks (ours, guest, rental suite, iOT devices) and chatGPT tells me the Actiontec is not capable. It has been suggested to me I should get 3 access points to cover the main, rental and garage/outside. Presumably then I need to either run them off some POE switch from the Actiontec, or get some other new router direct to the Nokia fiber box. or is there some new Telus supplied hardware that I should be getting an upgrade to that can offer multiple networks, and mesh to the garage? oh, and we have Iotik TV just to complicate things. not even sure where to pick back up at this point…Solved1.3KViews0likes1Comment
