Answers for this aren't hard to find. Basically Shaw (Corus) decided to not renew the license for BBC Canada effectively shutting down the channel in Canada. Guessing they were losing money on it.
In April 2021 the BBC is planning to start up a streaming service in Canada called BBC Select. It won't be available as a TV channel directly but through Amazon Prime and the AppleTV app. There's no clear listing of the content expected to be offered on that service yet. It is likely that Britbox will not be picking up any of the BBC content from this change in operations either.
