What does Pik TV need? lets make a list

blastertoad

Ok lets make a comprehensive list of what we would like to see from Pik TV.

1. Notifications: allow us to set notifications for series through the phone app or box

2. Remote support for AV receivers and projectors: Add remote control codes for receivers and projectors so we can change our volume with the remote

3. Subscribed only channel up / down: right now if you use the remote buttons CH up / down it will still cycle through unsubscribed channels.

Please everyone add your own thoughts and suggestions so we can bet the best product available.

You're better off putting these in the Ideas section rather than the regular forums. More likely to be looked at there.

Yes the ideas area is more likely to be looked at by someone with authority, although I have found historically it gets less community involvement. If we can get a few users voicing their suggestions here I can then make a new ideas post consolidating the ideas and link this discussion.

4. Per channel guid: when viewing the guide if you select a channel it would list vertically and chronologically what is playin on that channel only.

Come on where are other people's ideas

I have no difficulty curently with this feature being horizontally presented. I scan to the right to see what programming is in future time slots.

5. Dolby Digital surround sound support for Pik TV (Its #1 on my list)

6. Option to pause TV (and ideally record) by attaching a USB Flash or hard drive to the Pik TV Android box

7. Cloud PVR

8. Enable Casting to Pik TV Android Box

9. Release a Pik TV app for all Android TV boxes on Google Play/Amazon app store

10. Allow more that one Pik TV Android box per account

Sadly I doubt 6 will happen. The broadcasters place a lot of restrictions on how the content is used and stored. Even on Optik you can't stream certain content from certain channels (MUCH) on the Android or iOS apps.

8 already exists. I've used it on mine.

9 may or may not happen for the same reason as six. I'm still waiting for CraveTV to release an Android TV platform app.

I suspect 10 has a good chance of happening. I'd be surprised if Telus hasn't already considered that one and is just waiting for the initial roll-out to complete before allowing extra boxes.

How little do you add before PikTV becomes undifferentiated from Optik?

I haven't been able to cast anything to the Pik TV box. It will show up on my phone/tablet/PC as a casting device, but I get error GC07 when trying to cast.

Pausing Live TV would be a nice feature that I suspect could be implemented fairly easily by adding additional storage. Recording and pausing is already a feature on Optik, as long as the recordings have some sort of DRM on the usb device, I can't see there being an issue.

Do you mean Google Cast? It's already there, and honestly, works better than my Mk. II Chromecast.

May want to update your various clients as well as the Google Apps on the Pik TV Box if you're still having issues.
