Can the Pik TV media box be used without a subscription to the PikTV streaming service? I ask because the box itself seems like a good streaming device for the price, and I'd like to use it for streaming apps like Netflix, Amazon, etc., but I'm not interested in the live channels. If I buy the box outright form somewhere, can I still use the box for these apps, or will the device lock me out without a current PikTV subscription?

The Pik media box isn't sold without a Pik TV subscription.
That said if the Pik TV subscription were allowed to lapse, all of the Google apps would continue to work.
Note that the box boots directly to the Pik app by default, but the Google apps can still be accessed by pressing the House button on the remote.
Amazon Prime Video is available on Android (Smartphones & Tablets), but Amazon has not yet launched an Android TV app, so you can't get Prime on the Pik media box at this time.

No, the Telus Media is not available independent of a subscription at the moment. There are of course a plethora of other devices out there, including Roku, Apple TV, Shield TV and others that can fill the gap if you want to use streaming services other than Pik TV.

Just something for those that are using an Android media box .
Search Phoenix Os
It is an Android operating system ( lite ) that is available in 5.1 or 7.1 and works with multiple platforms.

Are you sure? I saw somewhere online that it asks if you already have a box and I see you don't need one now as you can watch on a web browser and a smart phone app.

@DeniseMilani - You're responding to a post that is 6 months old. At the time, a Pik TV box and subscription were required together. Only very recently has that changed.

I've had the opposite experience. I can cast no problem from my S7. I've rarely had any streaming issues with Pik aside from one little snag when first switching from another app (Kodi, Netflix etc) back to Pik TV. My internet speed is a fraction of yours as well. My Pik box has been solid on both wired and wireless.
