Pik TV Bandwidth

Aufklarüng
Just Moved In

Hi all!

Does the base configuration of Pik TV really only come with 150GB of data per month? Telus advertises that you need at least their Internet 25 plan, which comes with 300GB. Yet when I went to the sign-up page, it says that only 150GB is included. Do they figure we'll use less data because we won't stream as much? That's certainly not the case for me...I was considering signing up, but anything less than 300GB is pretty much a deal breaker for me. I know you can add unlimited data, but then the price is more than I'm able to pay at the moment...

Thanks for the screenshot. It explains a lot!
It seems the bundle price you are looking at has a lower data cap, as you earlier suggested. So, yes, it appears Telus expects having the PikTV subscription will reduce most folks data consumption. Your choice would be to either get the 25 Mbps service ($73/ month) plus PikTV for $20, or add the $10 unlimited to the $75 PikTV/Internet bundle.

Link or screenshot? I don't see the information you describe.

The data consumed by the PikTV  App on the PikTV device, when connected to your home network, is zero rated. You are not charged for it. You would have the 300 GB of your plan, as well.

Hi NFtoBC,

Thanks for the reply. This is what I see when I go to the sign-up screen, where it says a few times that it includes 150 instead of 300 GB. I know the TV app wouldn't count towards the data, but do a lot of other things like Steam, Netflix, downloading shows/movies from iTunes, etc. so I would really need the 300.

To clarify....

  • generally what you watch on the PikTV box, excludes your monthly data allowance.  You don't need the unlimited plan.
  • Netflix and the PikTV app on your mobile device DOES count to your monthly allowance
  • You want the 25 or 50 plan for the higher download speeds.  Especially if you have others in the house where their internet activities can cause the PikTV box to have picture issues when the bandwidth is stretched thin.  Look closely at the price difference between 25, 50 and 150 plans.... the minimal price difference justifies the better picture quality, especially if you have more than one person in the home.
