Performance question for SHIELD TV users

mitelman

I have a few questions that I am hoping that SHIELD TV users can answer now that we are able to install Pik TV on that device.

  • Is there a performance difference from the existing Android box that comes from Telus?  If so, is it significant?
  • On the SHIELD device, does the Pik app auto-launch like it does on the Telus box, or does it always have to be manually started?
  • Will the existing Telus remote pair with the SHIELD device?

I am trying to alleviate some performance issues that frustrate my wife with the existing Android box and Best Buy has the SHIELD TV device on sale this week for Black Friday.

Thanks.

It’s like comparing a VW bettle to a Ferrari. The hardware and performance of the Nvidia shield is vastly superior. Anything installed on it runs as smooth as butter.

It launches when you start the app. The shield remote is fine for navigating around piktv. I haven’t bothered trying to connect the PikTV remote and check it’s functions.

You’ll have no regrets with the nvidia shield it’s a powerhouse android tv device.

I paired my PikTV remote to my shield and it seems to disconnect frequently and I have to restart the shield in order for it to work again. Also the buttons do not line up with the shield so a number of the buttons either open the wrong program(PikTV opens googles media store) or just don't do anything at all. There is an app to remap button commands but it didn't work all that well for the PikTV remote. I like the PikTV remote more but he stock shield remote works well so didn't bother me to much.
