Is there a way to disable the wireless function of the tv box placed in the garage? Instead I use the existing coaxial cable for connection to my tv in the bed room upstairs?

Simply connecting the Ethernet should have the effect you want. Else you can reset the device, and not set up the Wi-Fi.

Do you mean just connect the coax to one of the Ethernet ports in the ONT in the garage? Then connect the other end of the coax to PVR HD TV box in my bed room, using HDMI cable to connect to my TV set. Right?

No. Everything needs to go through a router.  Only one Ethernet port on the ONT is live.
