Optic TV NetFlix app issues and CEC

I was watching several shows on the optic TV box, it was a cisco branded box. I noticed slightly audible pops in the sound, not on the optic "cable channels" or on crave TV app or anything else.

I'm running a Yamaha 7.2 theater amp. At 1st I though it was having a issue, I reset it.

Left amp off for a day, unplugged (drain capacitors) . Went back same issue.

Used Netflix from handset to chromecast in same TV and amp. (Everything is on same amp and tv) no problems with Netflix app on handset to chromecast, perfect sound.

Tried Netflix app on a matricom set top box, no audio issues.

Booked a tech home visit,
Then noticed it excessively on Trevor Noah son of Patricia " I rewound the show slightly and discovered something intresting :

The slight high pitched and low pitched pops happen at the same time in the show , every time. Rewind and it happens at same exact moment.

Demonstrated to the tech. He changed the box out for a colour something branded one, looked similar to old box only smaller, like new 4k ones.

Didn't notice the problem , but after a few hours it came back, on this box.

Along with something that was even worse:

No more HDMI Control Electronics Control (which tells the amp what box I'm using and changes the source accordingly, also shuts off amp when you shut off TV.

Huge inconvenience having to use multiple remotes and multiple keys.

The worst part is that it interferes with the other devices that do support the HDCEC.

Now I'm stuck with same but worse situation. Fantastic, thank you.

I've found that the 7105 player and the 7150 dvr and prior boxes support hdmi cec. But the color whatever ones and the 4k ones do not.

I do not know what 2 cents the Cisco or Microsoft CE people are saving by not including this tech going forward as cisco makes the color whatever boxes and the scientific Atlanta boxes, simple Google search they're all the same company.

Telus needs to listen to the customers and fix their version of the Cisco/Microsoft Netflix app or demand that cisco fix it and put the hdmi cec software back.

If you don't want customers who have good equipment, then why even be in the TV biz?

Also since you've included your competitor
Netflix, why haven't you included the Prime TV app or the
CBS TV app (now avail in Canada ) or
Global TV app
CbC Gem
City TV app
CTV app

I'm sure between telus and bell they can demand Cisco or Microsoft include those apps.

I was a strong promoter of Telus Optic TV to all my friends and family, proudly showing off the flawless Netflix etc. That just ended because now you've wasted the thousands of dollars I've spent on hdmi cec compatible equipment.

If I wanted to manually control things like its 2004, I could have just stayed with bell satellite TV. Old surround amp, and monitor.

Please fix msCE Netflix app and hdmi cec support I'm sure it's easy for you.

On the optic TV box goto ch 422 or start Netflix app from apps then play Trevor Noah Son of Patricia

The low pitch and high pitch pops are apparent throughout and distract from the show. However if you FF to 16 minutes then watch till 18 minutes into show you'll notice allot of them.

They are hardcoded into the programs as you can rewind and duplicate it. Obviously your program needs to be at a medium level on your surround sound amplifier , and or TV. Yes it happens on the TV too.

Is telus going to buy us all new surround amplifiers speakers and TVs when this popping damages out equipment? My equipment is $4k-$7000.00

Wouldn't it be cheaper to have Microsoft fix this issue? Also your app is ancient Netflix base, needs a refresh anyways. Also this problem wasn't there a year ago.

Netflix isn't Telus competitor. Crave is Netflix's competitor and both are available on Optik.

The "apps" you are referring to are not available on set top boxes. They are iOS and Android apps.

Amazon Prime has been discussed at length already. Amazon will not allow it on this platform or many others.

Microsoft has nothing to do with the Optik TV boxes and hasn't in many years since they sold off the Mediaroom platform to Ericcson in 2013. Cisco has nothing to do with software that companies choose to load onto their devices either. For those apps, it'll be up to those companies to produce versions for other platforms and considering most of their content will be out on demand, they won't be making competing apps.

Please fix msCE Netflix app...

Netflix's support pages instruct users with audio issues, to contact them directly. Their support people also request users to contact them for this issue. The more users that contact them, the sooner they can get a fix done. Please contact Netflix.
