wifi calling reliability

What is the minimum wifi signal strength to support reliable wifi calling on a Samsung S8?  Network Cell info shows about -40 dBm in the same room as my router, but even there I can't connect  reliably.  For normal wifi usage the signal is adequate throughout the house.

Guessing your text messages, especially any with photos won't go through? Second you turn off wifi calling it all works?

IF I'm close enough to my router AND the phone has connected to wifi calling, THEN I can make a voice call.

If I have lower wifi signal strength AND phone shows wifi calling connected, THEN I'm restricted to text.

The problem seems to be the phone not reliably connecting to wifi calling even when it's within 2 m of the router. _Sometimes_ it works if I reset the phone. And sometimes it will lose the connection to wifi calling while the phone is still within the area.

Haven't noticed any immediate activity when I turn off wifi calling.

Thanks Foonus
