I cannot get my son's bb9700 to connect to wifi? anywhere? Help

Is the wifi on the 9700 turned on or enabled?

Have you created a security profile?  What happens if you try connecting to open wifi networks at restaurants?

first, make sure that the wifi on your son's mobile is turned on. HOW TO:

-menu

-manage connection

-turn wifi on

if its already on, you might wanna try turning it on for a few seconds and turn it back on again. once turned on, then you can scan for a free network. if the network like wifi from starbucks have a password, you might wanna ask the store for the password. if you can not get the pw then (simple), you wont be able to connect to wifi.

however, if pw is right and you still can not connect to wifi, you might wanna try bringing your phone to any telus store for a phone physical check up...
