Shady Telus... Mobile data disabled, still being charged usage!

I travel for work and while travelling, I purchase (and use) lots of data. I'm nearing my data limit, so I disabled my mobile data a few days ago, since I'm currently in a place where I get wifi. I'm still being charged for data usage.

 

Furthermore, my wife (who is not with me, she's at home) had her usage suddenly shoot up the past 3 days, (the same time I shut my mobile data off- coincidence?) unaccountably. When I say shoot up, I mean roughly 1GB per day, and she's at home with our house wifi; I don't think she's ever used more than 2GB per month, ever, yet suddenly she's used 3GB in 3 days? No, she has not.

 

It seems clear to me what's going on here, and certainly I wouldn't be the only one to whom this sort of thing is happening. This is the kind of issue over which one may opt to switch carriers, at the very least. I will be investigating further, gathering evidence and taking screenshots of everything, and will report back VIA a variety of outlets.

You can also check in your phone to see which apps are using data. Usually Settings > Cellular or Settings > Network gets you to the list of Apps and usage.

ROgue apps in the Apple and Android stores can bypass data restrictions, including being disabled.  iPhone's and some Android phones can still use data even when data is disabled.

Unfortunately, you won't find any help here for your issue, as you clearly already know how data works, and when your own is not working correctly. Sometimes we get mb dribbles when data is disabled, but that's not at all what you've described. I hope you get your issue resolved. I'd be interested in the outcome.

One thing that is still surprising in today's technological era is, that billing and usage is still well behind being in real time.  Just because something shows up days later doesn't actually mean it has been used on that day.  On average, usage and things related to billing are about 5 business days behind.
