Rate Increases

RAYT
Just Moved In

I've heard that Telus is raising its rates on August 1st, 2013. For pay per use users local calls are increased from .30/min. to .50/min (67%), while long distance rates increase from .40/min to $1.00/min (150%). Text messaging increases from .25/min to .30/min (20%). Can someone  confirm this?

"Rest assured, the increase will definately improve the service around you. Your money will be spent to grow Telus infrastructure. "

Why don't they improve my service with the $1.03b in net income they raked in last quarter?  Huh?

Listen, I sense a Big Red storm coming from the south and it's going to gobble up Wind, Mobilicity and half of the 700Mhz spectrum available to them in the 2014 auction.  What do you think is going to happen when they start offering $40 unlimited plans to everyone?  When they decide to open up their wallets and unlimited amounts of dough come spilling out onto the Canadian telco landscape, who are your shareholders going to blame when you lose 2/3 of your subscriber base?

Telus, Bell and Rogers are going about this all wrong and it's going to bite them in the a$$ in the long run.

I can guarantee you that even if Verizon comes up to Canada, you won't see the same awesome U.S. plans up here because the U.S. has TEN TIMES the population that we do and less sparsely populated areas. They have the higher subcriber base and less areas to cover to support cheaper subsidies/plans.

Is this why Mobilicity ran into problems?

Except we're talking about the reddist of herrings.  Cell towers only occupy ~=20% of the Canadian lanscape.  Next.
