I was charged a unreasonable international message fee

I get my new SIM card and activate it yesterday. But just miniutes after the activation I was charge $0.40 for an International message. I am sure no message was sent in or received. Does some one know what is wrong with it?

40 cents is unreasonable? Usually international text messages are 60 cents.

the problem is I did not send any message or receive, I dont know if it would happen again.

We can't be 100% sure without having access to your account, maybe it was a message sent to the U.S. ? Is the message showing in your device? Let us know if happens to you again.

If you sign onto your Telus account, it should show the international message number.

 

BTW... are you close to the US border?

It could also be that the phone number is entered into your phone wrong.

When communicating with international friends and visitors.... I use...

Some free apps use US numbers to send and receive sms. It can happen that an application you're using is actually causing those charges as the system is recognizing the sms to be international ones.

Did you set up any other messaging apps, like whattsapp or telegram or skype, they will tend to send a text message to verify your phone number in order to activate
