Can never connect to Telus Public Wi-Fi from my Moto G Play phone

I repeatedly try to connect to the #Telus Wi-Fi hotspot,

I get prompted to sign-in to Wi-Fi network:

I press the notification but get this error

I then press the "CONTINUE ANYWAY VIA BROWSER" link and finally end up at the "This Site Can't Be Reached" error page in Chrome:

I'm using Android version 7.1.1. Any help much appreciated.

Have you tried a different browser on your phone?

Go to your browser and try loading a page that you know is only available on http

More and more websites are using https and some are using this QUIC protocol with certificate pinning which means your phone will refuse to be redirected to the telus signon page if that is the URL it was attempting to load.

So go to something simple like http://wwwww.com/  (5 w's)

I think basically all the top sites have switched to enforcing https encryption and a big chunk of those are starting to use certificate pinning to prevent redirects which break the login page.

So load an unencrypted page first and then try to authenticate with the hotspot.
