$70 is the MINIMUM?!

Just got off the phone with telus mobility loyaty support and was told that 70$ is as low as they can go for a talk and text plan with data for iPhone.  Even with the competition offering rate plan of 50$ per month, basically twice as much data, and a 16g 5s phone for 150$, they won't even entertain the possibility of MATCHING.  Dont say its not possible if it clearly IS possible.  Why would I spend 20 extra dollars a month for less service?  Been with the company since '09 now that the contract has expired, I think that I'll have to move on.  I enjoy the service from telus, never had a problem, but throw me a bone.....showing some flexibility to your existing customers goes a long way.  Capitalize on customers trepidation to move to "budget carriers" and say "yeah, thats a good deal, lowest I can go is $55, but I'll give you a 9 pin adapter or case"  Perceived value.  That extra 5$ is 120$ profit by the end of my contract minus the cost of the incentive, but the customer feels they've gotten something extra.  My .02

Welcome to the modern world of cellular without competition. I've been told if I upgrade my iPhone to something newer I lose my $40/mo plan with my iPhone 4 and will have to pay minimum $70 also. Loyalty typically won't match anything. If you are REALLY nice to them (no threats to cancel service, lawyers, insults, etc), you MIGHT be able to get some flexibility but not likely much. As for budget carriers, remember the main ones are all owned by the big three companies. The coverage area may be reduced in some cases (as per a Koodo rep when I asked about their coverage compared to Telus').

Good to know. I've not thought of the possibility of reduced services. Gonna jump through all the hoops, ask lots of questions and make sure I'm satisfied with the plan before signing on for the next 2 years.

The things to consider about switching to a discount carrier...

  • talk to your co-workers and neighbors.... are they using a discount carrier?  how's the coverage indoors.  Many discount carriers have deadzones, especially inside buildings there Telus has made the effort to install repeaters
  • are you planning to travel to suburban parts of the city?  Discount carriers are focussed on the downtown and high population regions, but charge you roaming once you leave the urban neighborhoods.
  • are you planning to get a new phone?  They often use networks very different than the Big 3.

same thing is happening to me....I completed my 2 yr contract with Telus, and lost wifi connection and features on my cell the day after, even though I am still a customer and going from month to month on a $50 plan ( my current plan)

Telus refuses to upgrade my phone unless I spend a $80 minimum per month and adding on a new phone in regards to a shareplus plan....I dont have any other techincal devices, I don't need a shareplus plan, also why would I spend an extra $30 per month on a phone with the exaxt same features as the phone I have now??

Time to shop elsewhere

I'm one more customer, who after my 3yrs contract expired, with a montly [$50-bill, jumped to$70]..have no choice than pay for it or switch to Rogers, Bell, Fido, etc. But from my standpoint view the solution, isn't run to another carrier, let's stay with TELUS

and fight united for lower rates.

We can also send our complaints to "CRTC" through the "Open Media-Website" here's the link.

https://openmedia.ca/ (If link not open by leftclick-right click+open+select campaigns) one of the features in mobile plans, that getting a huge profits for Telecoms is the "Data usage"

like the so called -Shared data - even though you're single user is included in the plan, what a nonsense.  <Bye>  "v9"

The future is unknown?

The campagins section of the openmedia website is clearly a joke. Canada already has world-class cellular networks, bested only by Norway in speed and reliability.

Everywhere in Canada except Manitoba & Saskatchewan the cheapest you can get a fully subsidized iPhone 5s ($150-229 2yr device price depending on sales) is $70/month. Bell, Rogers, Telus, Koodo, Fido & Virgin. Public are going bankrupt, Wind & Mobilicity (also going bankrupt) have limited coverage.\

Let's do a quick review:

http://www.telus.com/wireless/devices/iphone-5s/?INTCMP=BetaCatalogCardiPhone5s - Available with SharePlus plans only, start @ $70/month

http://www.bell.ca/Mobility/Products/Apple-iPhone-5s#INT=MOB_moblistinghmpg_BAN_iPhone5SLTEnetwork_m... - Available with Voice & Data Plus only, start at $70/month

http://www.rogers.com/web/content/iphone-5s - Available with Share Everything plans only, start at $70/month

http://www.virginmobile.ca/en/phones/phone-details.html?model=iphone5s16&colour=Gold&contractTerm=SP... - Available with Platinum plans on contract only, start @ $70/month

http://www.fido.ca/web/page/portal/Fido/iPhones#iphone5s_tab - Available with Max plans only, start at $75/month

https://shop.koodomobile.com/phones/models/index.html - Available with Tab L plans, start at $75/month

Now let's look at the US:

AT&T - http://www.att.com/media/att/planner/#fbid=MRD8zdf8VSE - $70 minimum for less services

Verizon - http://www.verizonwireless.com/wcms/consumer/shop/share-everything.html - $80 minimum,

Which competition is offering a $50 plan?
