Unlocked phones

I think it would be a good idea for telus phones to come unlocked or for there to be a telus service that would unlock a phone (if it's paid off ) for you because that would say to the customers "hey we trust you as much as you trust us"  because in my veiw if a phone company has to rely on sim locks for their customer's loyalty they're not doing that good of a job anyway.

Telus will unlock a full price phone at time of purchase. If you buy a subsidized phone, it can be unlocked 90 days into the contract.

I understand what you mean wetty12 because even I have the same question, actually the fee is charged by the manufacturers to unlock the phones that they locked on a specific network. It appears on your invoice because each company have partnership with the manufacturers, first of all is to provide us a subsidized price for the phone but the whole point of putting unlock fee on our bill is for us not to pay it upfront, plus not all of us have credit cards to pay it(I honestly don't just an example because I'm also a consumer) which is a hassle and of course Telus doesn't want us to go to the store to unlock the phone for a reason that not every consumer is near any stores available depending on the province.

Follow up question: Why does it appear on my invoice if Telus is not the one who's charging it?

Telus agreed to apply the charge on the bill because of the partnership with the manufacturers, no hassle getting a credit card to pay it upfront or go to any store location.

**Note: As much as every representative of Telus would really love to waive off the fee to keep every consumer loyal or stay with the company, they prefer to charge it because it's a mandatory fee to be paid as per manufacturers.
