Software Update Schedule Discussion

Very professionally done. You should really remove this page and put 'updates to come to Android phones one day, we're not really sure when.' I think I will be switching phones to the nexus devices to actually get updates faster than this half a snail's pace. The Telus experience is not one I'm impressed with. Makes me consider switching providers.

@crostini

This Neighbourhood is inhabited by customers, just like you. We have no insight to Telus business plans, and no connection to the internal workings of Telus. We volunteer to share knowledge about Telus products and services which we have gained by experience or surmise. We are free to express our own opinions and comments, which may not always be in agreement with the ideals of Telus. As such, we have no idea when or if LG will be releasing Nougat.

Last update to Mobile Update Schedule - Last updated: March 30, 2017

Not the case, as recently the GS6 and GSS6 Edge LATE APRIL release of Android N was removed.

Care to explain instead of just teasing us and removing things without explanation?

@mhinc it's was tentatively to be released April 10th, (all release dates are estimated) it was pushed back to the later end of April.

Telus doesn't provide the reason for the delay. It's still scheduled to be released this month.

@WestCoasterBC Have you checked the update schedule lately?  It's been REMOVED completely.  The Software update schedule, last I checked 2 days ago, stated S6 and S6 Edge - Late April - Bug Fixes / Security Updates / Android N

Now it's just been removed.  Oddly the last update states March 30th, 2017, I would have figured an UPDATE would be removing things as well.

Which obviously was done after March 30th.

I would like to hear from TELUS as to why this was done.  Someone that actual KNOWS not an assumption, or a way to get a post count.

That was my point.  Screen Shot 2017-04-15 at 5.53.39 AM.png

It matches Roger's now. Nothing announced there for any updates on the S6 either.

It's exceedingly rare to get a specific answer from any carrier why the updates get delayed. Most common, especially with past Samsung updates, is that some major bug was found. That happened with the Marshmallow update for the S6 last year.

@Nighthawk Usually Telus is ahead of Rogers, and especially Bell when it comes to updates.  I grabbed an S7 so not a huge issue now.  BUT I would like to sell my S6 with Nougat on it.  It would just be nice if there was a little more information as to WHY updates that are scheduled, even if an estimate.  Are removed.  Yes I agree, it's probably a Bug issue that was the reason for it's removal but at least leave it on the page and put a reason such as "Delayed"

That's all I ask.

I agree! At least tell us why.

D'ya think the carriers may be under some forms of NDA about release information? Possibly the manufacturers don't want published the causes of such changes.

Just downloaded nougat for my note 5

@NFtoBC Even if that is the case.  They can at LEAST update the schedule to "Delayed", without a reason, rather than just removing it all together.

That would not fall under a NDA, it would at least let customers know that it's still coming, but it's delayed.  Removing it is just a kick in the teeth, when you have an S6 and you are expecting it.

Also concerning that the Note 5 has updated and wasn't even on the update list when the S6 was.  And we are left in the dust and dark.

Just found the following on mobilesyrup.com

Earlier this week, Telus removed the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge Nougat update from its OS Update Schedule web page. In a statement to MobileSyrup, a spokesperson for the carrier said the update is still on its way.

“We do intend to bring Nougat to the S6 but we’re currently working to ensure the best possible experience for our users. The release date will be updated as soon as we’re certain the experience will be seamless,” said the spokesperson.

Now if they can give a statement to an online mobile news site, why can't they provide their customers this info FIRST HAND.

That' is my issue!

Much is released by the PR department before being shared with customers. Most new releases go that way, so no surprise a PR spokesperson is maintaining a relationship with the media. The actual statement has no substance, and is standard bafflegab: there may actually never be a release date, if the condition is not met.

Looks like Rogers may beat Telus to the punch for the Android 7 update on the S6 and S6 Edge

I'm still curious how many years it'll take Samsung and the other manufacturers to get past 7.0. 7.1.2 seems to be the most recent Android version at this point which Google has on their devices. All the other manufacturers are merely releasing 7.0.

Figures. This is really disappointing.
I have been brand loyal to the Samsung brand since the Nexus S but I have completely had it.

I just want timely updates, on an S6. It isn't too much to ask. It understand life cycles of upgrades but for what was a flagship only two years ago this is just constantly left in the dark. The not ready for primetime Bixby on the S8 is a perfect example.

Just roll out 7.0 for these older phones and if it really is that crappy it will just give me another reason to switch phone brands and probably carrier at this point.

There's a bunch of stuff about the nougat on the note 5 that I don't really like. So far overall it's a bit of a disappointment. Marshmallow was pretty good really.  I remember beating my head against the wall waiting for my note 1 to update. In the end it's just a phone and shouldn't effect our lives.

I just saw this from the mobile syrup website

http://mobilesyrup.com/2017/04/26/telus-galaxy-s6-edge-android-n-update-nougat/

I was wondering if anyone has received the update yet?

Definitely not

I received it on s6 edge yesterday😊😊

Nothing here S6.
