Software Update Schedule Discussion

Very professionally done. You should really remove this page and put 'updates to come to Android phones one day, we're not really sure when.' I think I will be switching phones to the nexus devices to actually get updates faster than this half a snail's pace. The Telus experience is not one I'm impressed with. Makes me consider switching providers.

I've never had to use an autoloader. I guess my first time is coming up. Fortunately I can experiment on my old Z10 before trying it out on my Passport.

Telus should properly support devices they have sold at a minimum for the duration of the contract. Passport user here as well and my phone is now behind by two releases. If Telus will not support a phone that they sell under contract, they should unlock it for free.

Grab an autoloader and no need to wait for a carrier push. Most that own a blackberry have been doing this for a long time. Plenty of resources at http://www.Crackberry.com for your device.

It's not the ideal way but at this point your only option.

@Blutroll The autoloader is just the software updates it has no other effect on the phone. Regardless of carrier or lock status.

I eventually gave up on BB10 like most and moved on. Was tired of side loading apps, some apps wouldn't work always using autoloader. I loved the OS for the most part, but hardware wise was way behind to the competition.

I find that BB10 is a complete OS. Android seems unfinished to me as does iOS. If I need to download half a dozen apps just to get an OS to do the basics, then there's something wrong. Anyway, I don't think there's such a difference between 10.3.2 and 10.3.3‎ that I'm going to risk messing up my device with an autoloader. If there was a significant difference, I'd do it. Still I'm unhappy that Telus is dragging their feet on rolling out the update. Just like the Android security updates. They are finally coming to my wife's DTEK50 on Monday, even though BlackBerry issued them over a week ago.I am very disappointed.

If you only have to wait a week, then consider yourself lucky. Carriers normally bundle the security updates with the regular updates. Meaning, you are waiting ~6 months for security updates on Android. That is, unless you own a Pixel or Nexus device, then they are monthly.

I agree. If it were unlocked, then would the system recognize it as a device bought through Shop BlackBerry? ‎ While in the past I have been a supporter of contract plans, this recent experience is giving thought to buying direct, even though from a financial aspect it's better for me to be on contract.

When will TELUS release the Android OS update to Nougat for the Samsung Galaxy S7? Samsung released Android 7.1.1 January 12th after a beta program so when will TELUS offer this highly anticipated update?

Samsung hasn't officially announced Nougat yet. Telus will be waiting for them to do that. Unless Samsung radically changed their process, they're ususally 6-9 months delayed in releasing updated from when Google does.

There may be a delay as well > http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_halts_galaxy_s7_nougat_update_rollout-news-22777.php

Samsung announced it yesterday officially, so it looks like the delay is over.

It'll be interesting to see how quickly Telus can deliver it to us now seeing there's been an extensive beta period ahead of the general release.

Once it's released on any carrier in Canada, you can download it from SamMobile and flash it with Odin. Samsung uses the same software (multi CSC) Canada wide. Same hardware also.

My guess for the s7 and s7 nougat update would be sometimes in March

if it's sometime in march then i will probably be using a different phone if i even renew my contract... the samsung s7 edge has been a total nightmare and i was hoping that a firmware update might fix the issue....the amount i use my phone it would better suit my getting a pay as you go phone rather than dumping $90+taxes every month i could easily get away with a pay as you go and put 25 dollars on it every month.. the only reason i kept up with my plan was my mother's health issues which i can say she is no longer having as she passed last sunday so i don't really need my phone anymore

Samsung only announced 7.0. If you want it with all of the fixes, you'll be waiting longer than March for the 7.1.1 release.

Dear TELUS, I understand the desire to not set false expectations, but having a supposedly forward-looking schedule only looking backwards is not the best idea from a customer service standpoint.

I noticed that the updates page (https://forum.telus.com/t5/Mobility/Software-Update-Schedule/ta-p/53566) now has an extra column: "Target Launch".  Of course, it's empty.

Over the past few months, things only get posted AFTER they have been released.

I think if 2 things were improved, it would keep customers happy while minimizing churn for the support folks:

  1. Actually post, as early as possible (ideally a month before the targeted release), the targeted release date.
  2. Add 1 more column "Reason for delay".  If there's a delay, provide a brief one-line description on why it was delayed and post a new target.

Either that or change the title of the topic the "Software Update History" to be clear you're not going to forecast anymore.

My 2 cents...

The BlackBerry Z10 has Target Launch of February 6 for a Security Update. Is this OS 10.3.3?

Thanks,

Shane.

It is likely a security patch. Usually OS updates are so noted.

did anyone got the Android N update for Moto G4 Plus yet? it's schedule for Feb 13 release but I have not got it yet.

The updates are usually released in batches so the servers aren't overwhelmed. You may want to hold off a little on updating the G4 Plus as Lenovo's forums have a number of users indicating there have been problems since updating.
