Software Update Schedule Discussion

Very professionally done. You should really remove this page and put 'updates to come to Android phones one day, we're not really sure when.' I think I will be switching phones to the nexus devices to actually get updates faster than this half a snail's pace. The Telus experience is not one I'm impressed with. Makes me consider switching providers.

Nothing yet, keep an eye on this link for updates.  Mind you it's not updated until AFTER the updates happen, OR updates are posted and then removed.

I am so pumped that the GS6 update is tomorrow. Does anyone know what time the updates usually roll out? Midnight or a specific time? Smiley Very Happy

@Kalel1981 When I received my M8 update I got it about mid morning, I understand they are staggered too, so it could be any time within the next day or so.

Installed update for GS6 this morning. So far so good. Download took about 15 minutes and probably another 10-15 for installation and app updates.

Anyone get an update today for the gs7 edge? It says today but nothing yet. Really want my edge screen update  to fix the issues. Thx

Thanks for the update schedule.  I was wondering if someone from Telus could comment on the availability of the Windows 10 upgrade for the Lumia 830 and add to the schedule?  While we are a relatively small community on the Windows Phones, these updates go a long way towards supporting our user base.

I know some users are using the Windows Phone Insider program as a workaround, but this solution requires you to give up all privacy on the device (as everything is shared with Microsoft) and is not appropriate for business users.

@nismonick Added! 🙂

Any update to the schedule coming?

Last date on the list is Sept 8 and the list was last updated Sept 11... so seems like there should some house-cleaning to the list at the very least as July updates that were surpassed by August/Sept updates are kinda pointless now. 🤔

..... or perhaps to acknowledge that the updates aren't... being... uodated. 🤨

Been noticing for a while Telus, Koodo, Rogers and Fido were lagging behind, now it's just Telus and Koodo of late it seems.

Dunno what's going on. OEM's being lazy, carriers can't be bothered, or a combination of both?

That's why I'm starting despise Android more and more, just never know where you are going to stand on the update front. Truly expected things to be better by now especially heading into 2021 but if perception is indicative of where things are headed, I'd say it's getting worse.

So 2 weeks later, and still no update to the schedule? 🤨

Can we expect the September security updates from Samsung to be available from Telus in the next coupla days just like Rogers, or would that be expecting even more than the simple act of refreshing the update schedule? 🤔

Will it make it to a full month past the last update on the list with no refresh? Place your bets. 🥱

I received an "unannounced" security patch on my LG G8X ThinQ a couple weeks ago so assume updates from the likes of Samsung should still be ontrack. But like anything there's no guarantee especially in 2020... Telus/Koodo must have fired their update schedule team, either that or they are all sick?

Or things are simply slower since most are still working from home, and other things have priority over managing a list of likely (repeatedly) delayed phone updates?

If you find a post useful, please give the author a "Kudo"

Working from home isn't a good excuse, especially when other providers seem to be able to keep up. The fact that the list got properly updated hours after putting the spotlight on it again kinda proves that fact that the updates were still coming and ongoing, just without any heads-up for customers. A historic list is somewhat less useful than an upcoming schedule to prepare resources for updates to multiple users, especially business customers who need to anticipate potential conflicts from UI updates, etc.

It's already bad enough having multiple week delays vs US and European carries for security patches that require little carrier specializations. It would be far better to simply have Mfrs do direct UI & security updates, and just have Telus do the carrier services updates, especially if they are struggling to keep up with the others for whatever reason. If carriers want to intervene or control that process, then they need to properly support it too. Considering much of the heavy lifting is done by LG, Samsung, etc (and who are also more to blame for actual software delays/omissions especially for specific devices) it's definitely more of a focus issue than a resources or location limitation for the simple act of maintaining a schedule vs the actual development/testing which was obviously proceeding in the background. 🤔

Of all the roles that are well suited for work from home, software tester/developer and website management are near the top of the list. There is no reason the schedule should've been delayed for the needs of office space or face to face interaction, especially for a company that promotes the benefits of work from home products and services.

It would also be far more understandable having those operational challenges in March, April or even May, but not in September when Covid considerations should already be part of daily business operations.

That's always my main concern. Just like when you work like I do, as a sales rep, so commission base, I need information to make my job more results based. To make it so I need the communication to never stop. As is the case with Telus, my company is the same. Communication always breaks down when it is most necessary.
That being said I appreciate that maybe they do listen, but just don't care too much about it to let people know that they are paying attention. I go on at times. My apologies. Such a Canadian I am.

"Or things are simply slower since most are still working from home, and other things have priority over managing a list of likely (repeatedly) delayed phone updates?"

My job has change to a certain degree as many other's have yet at the end of the day, we still have deliver like the pre-covid days. Output is the same just done differently at times. So yeah don't buy this working at home bit. In the beginning when there were way more unknowns/uncertainty it didn't seem to be a problem so why now?

Any hint as to the 4 unnamed "Samsung" devices added to the list today getting a security update tomorrow ? 🤨

Any news on GS5 Active?  I thought it was the same as GS5 but no update yet. I hope this doesn't take too long.

@dru Thanks for adding the 830, I can see the update is available on the phone.  Much appreciated, keep up the great work!

Just created account. Have no idea if i'm in the right place. I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 and I see that it is scheduled for May 16th but I have had it on all night and just happened to check to the update and it said that it already downloaded it and installed it. But I didn't see it do anything and it still says 5.1.1

Any ideas?

@sanayp As release dates become available to us, we'll update our schedule accordingly 🙂
