Question About Family Plan and Purchasing Phone

Hey everyone. I'm a hardcore Android user and this year I'm looking to add to a family plan a Google Pixel (or perhaps a Pixel 2 when it comes out). However, I've got a question.

At the moment, my family has a family plan that they're using with two people on it with $70 per person, so $140 per month, technically. Thus, in my mind, it should be counted as $140 per month, enough for me to get a Pixel (for example) for $0 as soon as I purchase. But I'm a little unsure, because I'm thinking that perhaps it the plan only counts as $70 per month? When writing it out, it sounds sort of stupid, but I'm unsure and just want some clarification, haha. Anyone have any idea if the two person family plan is counted as $140 or $70 a month?

While re-reading my post, I might have made it slightly unclear what I'm asking. Basically, I need clarification on this:

In December, I am renewing a family plan that at the moment costs $70 per person with two people on it, so $140 a month. If I renew this plan, will the cost per month be counted as $140 (so enough to purchase a phone with a deal for $0 if I have a >$90 a month plan for two years) or $70 (not enough)?

It will likely be considered a $70 plan for device purchase subsidy, else you could expect to replace YOUR phone once every 4 years on subsidy, while the other family member upgrades theirs in the intervening period.

Think of each user as an independent plan with shared data, and you'll most easily wrap your mind around the concept.

You are half way there in figuring out where the $80 or $90 comes from! It's not broken down like you would think. Which is if your total account is spending $140 and you have 2 phones, then each must contribute $70 right? Wrong :p! If phone 1 has the your choice 55 for 300 local minutes only and phone 2 has your choice 65 nationwide calling anytime minutes and they are both sharing 1gb of data for $25 then = phone 1 contributes $80 monthly and phone 2 contributes $90 monthly!

If you're looking at the google pixel xl (I know you said just pixel but the website is erroring out and won't let me pick just that one...typical) then it has to plan prices. Even if you already contribute $90 monthly in your current plan you cannot get the $480 upfront cost unless you choose the base price at least $65 for 300 local mins for premium plus plans. The nationwide plan being $75. That's before the data add on. The two tiered pricing is new and so are the premium plus plans. You can't get the bigger discount without paying more monthly. The other upfront cost is $680 the pay $65 for nationwide.

There are a couple promotions for you though. When you trade in any phone that's worth more than $0 you'll automatically get $200 trade in value towards the phone! On google pixel or pixel xl. In store only. So the normal pixel $150 upfront would be free. I can't see the second price on it because the website issue.

And lots of data promos. You could get the google pixel normally $150 on a your choice $75 nationwide plan with 4.5gb of data for $35 = $110 for the first phone and $50 bring your own device if the second phone is out of contract for unlimited nationwide too which can share the data. Trade in a phone and google phone will be free. Your total monthly cost will be $160 + tax. Hope this kind of helps?! Information overload I know!
