Why does my phone randomly say not registered on network?

"Not Registered on Network" usually means either your SIM card is not making proper contact in the slot, or the SIM chip is bad. First, try removing, wiping with a cloth and re-inserting the SIM card in your phone. If that does not correct the issue, the next step is usually to obtain a fresh SIM card, and have it provisioned on your account.

Depending on how old the phone is and how much abuse it has taken over the years.  There is the slight possibility that the SIM contacts inside of the device have corroded.  9 times out of 10 though, cleaning the SIM with a bit of rubbing alcohol or replacing the SIM will solve your issue.
