BlackBerry OS 10.3.1 release

I own a BlackBerry Passport and am wondering when the latest OS 10.3.1 will be released. I know it's already been released for the Classic. I'm eagerly awaiting it for my Passport! 🙂

I still don't get why certain devices got the update later than others. Definitely confused by the Q5 being dead last to get the update, long after the Q10 received it.

It's normal practice by all carriers and device manufactures (eg. Apple) to roll out updates in phases. The grouping of the phases requires that some go first and some go last. That's life.

BB didn't hold up the update either; they rolled it out to all carriers in Canada at the same time. Disappointed in Telus!

Ask yourself how many carriers there are in Canada (BB rollout) compared to how many devices there are (Carrier roll out).

To add to @xray comment, it is also possible that some of the updates proceeded through the carrier's development and testing quicker and more smoothly than others. Should the completed update packages be withheld until all are tested and released? I think most users would like to receive updates as soon as ready, rather than waiting for another phone model's release to be complete.

My passport got a notification at 9pm tonight.... looks like 10.3.1 is available NOW!

Hi @xl, please let us know how you like the new OS version.

Installation took about 90 minutes.  No problems.  Quick things I noticed...

  • there was no need for me to backup my phone for the install.  Then again it's always smart to back up the phone and I did that on the weekend.
  • the alarm lock Snooze button is a little harder to find with the dismiss button.
  • Telus forum editor performance has slightly improved.  It's sad I can type faster than the forum editor can display my keystrokes.
  • Android screen resize is handy for apps.  It fixed my Q10 issues when trying to setup the Optik on the go App.
  • Hmm... I noticed some flickering with the camera and twitter app.  It went away a few minutes later.  Flickering has been reported by others online and would not be surprised of a patch in a few weeks.  Perhaps that's why the Passport update was delayed.

Check the Crackberry site for new 10.3.1 features.

Still awaiting Q5 rollout...I appreciate responses above, but I am getting canned/boilerplate responses from Telus. All other phones have received the update except the Q5.

Has anyone else with a BlackBerry Q5 received the update this is getting horrible I have been waiting for it for so long! When will it come to my phone!!!

@IndianFlavors and @mh1983 blackberry pulled the updates because of bugs. All of the carriers have stopped the rollout.

And now...?

You are better to ask Blackberry than telus. Once the software has passed the approval process, it's completely up to the OEM to release it via OTA.

Mmmm, thanks for the reply, but I disagree. It's pretty widely publicized that BB has released updates to carriers, including the recent patched version that addresses the flickering and probably the freak HTTP vulnerability.

Any hold up at this point is on the carrier side, it sounds like.

I have a Passport on the Telus network, currently running System Software 10.3.1.1581.

I wasn't aware of the flickering issue till yesterday when I decided to take my Passport's recommendation to upgrade my system software. Upgraded to .1581 and immediately found that a bunch of things had changed. Like, all my speed-dial keys were gone, replaced with shortcuts to applications and views that I'm not keen on. No idea why the upgrade changed my settings.

Another setting that was changed was Battery Saving Mode (the upgrade set it on, to activate at 20%). It kicked in during the evening, and that's when the flickering started. Most obvious on a few videos (not all), in Settings, and in Facebook (which was so bad it was totally unreadable/unusable). I turned Battery Saving Mode off, did a restart and the flickering stopped.

Everything working fine this morning. To test again, I set Battery Saving Mode on, and the flickering started again immediately. I turned Battery Saving Mode off, but the flickering continued. I restarted the device and the flickering stopped. Looking forward to a longer term fix.

I checked for another update from Telus, but as of now they tell me .1581 is "up to date". That's odd, because I have since checked other forums (Crackberry) and the flickering has been a known problem for weeks. No idea why Telus pushed this release with known problems in it.

There is a new update. I just got it on my Z30. Waiting for it on my passport now. It fixes the flickering.   Hope it works.

They say you can reboot the phone when you see the flickering.

When will the update be released for the Q5? Still using 10.2 .

I got sick of waiting. I installed 2582 (software release 10.3.1.1784) manually through an autoloader I downloaded.

The OS works perfectly on the Q5. Telus support keeps saying that there are issues and they're awaiting BB to release it to them. I call BS; this update has been out for awhile and BB clearly isn't holding things up.

Head on over to the CrackBerry forums to find details. Don't let Telus hold you up from updating your phone.

That's great!   I'm not having any issues with the first 10.3.1 update telus pushed out. But my Z30 got the same release as you downloaded. I bought it from BlackBerry website. So I gets updates from BlackBerry directly. 🙂
