Any benefits to unlocking phone?

If you were to stay with Telus are there any other benefits to unlocking other than bringing your device to another provider?

I agree...

-unlocking the phone increases resale value as it opens up the phone to other carriers.

-makes my life easier when traveling in the states where I can take advantage of local prices instead of roaming Canadian carrier charges

-makes my life even easier when I'm traveling internationally

Warning.... your phone model may not support all frequencies by other carriers.  For example... there are several LTE standards!  The phone may work... but you may not get the full speed of the other carrier.  Big example were Apple 4G products from North America could not use the LTE speeds when in Australia.

Nope. Unlocking specifically is just to allow you to use the phone on any compatible carrier.

Yes! Unlocking will allow you to make use of other carriers when you travel internationally. While Telus may be your home carrier, you may find it cheaper to acquire a local SIM if travelling to another service area for some time.
