What is STIR SHAKEN?
STIR/SHAKEN is a set of network tools used to verify the true calling number. TELUS verifies the original calling number by validating the legitimacy of the calling number and displaying a verified status on the receiver’s handset.
Notes:
With the implementation of STIR SHAKEN, a new display option (Verified) will appear on your device. Only fully Internet Protocol to Internet Protocol (IP to IP) Canadian calls can be validated on STIR/SHAKEN capable handsets. Currently, most calls are not fully IP to IP and, therefore, will continue to display as normal calls:
Description |
STIR SHAKEN |
Result |
Eligibility requirements and conditions are met |
Call verified |
You will see on your device that the call is “Verified”
|
Eligibility requirements and conditions are not met |
Call not verified/fails verification |
Calls that are not verified or fail verification, will come through like a normal call, you will not see any verification status on your device (no change from how you view your incoming calls today). |
Refer to the table below to know which devices support STIR SHAKEN and what will the verification message display on your device:
