Windows live 2012
Hello, I have been using Windows live 2012 to access my emails for years now and since yesterday it is blocking me from accessing my emails saying my name and password is incorrect. It is doing this...

Additionally, the other reason I suggested getting a modern email program is that Windows Live Mail 2012 doesn't support modern encryption and Google will eventually block outdated mail apps. If the above mentioned email settings don't work, you may have to change the security options on the Telus email through a browser. That may give a temporary reprieve.

Even though it is not recommended, and will only be temporary, to enable Less Secure app access, log in through a browser and:
- Click on the user icon in the top right and then click on Manage your Google Account:
- Click on Security on the left menu
- Click on Less secure app access
- Click on the toggle to enable:
- As long as the mail server settings match what is in my above post, re-try Windows Live Mail and see if it works now.

I'll try to get this right. You need to fist login to your telus account via a web browser. Then go to this link for your security settings:
From there you will need to enable 2-Step Verification if it's not already enabled.
Once that's done you can then go to App Passwords at the bottom of the 2-Step Verification page and create one for the App that you are setting up (Outlook, Windows Live, etc. it's just a label to keep track of your App Passwords). Select Create and a password will be generated. Copy or write this down (including spaces) as there is no way that I know to view this password except when it's first generated.
This will be the password you use in your Account configuration in the Mail app that you are using.
Hopefully that's it.

8 months agoIf it's a Telus email, you will need to check your settings. Google, which is the email service provider for Telus email accounts, is actively blocking apps configured to authenticate with username and password alone. Two of the possible errors it will give is an incorrect username or an incorrect password. If using IMAP, any drafts should be saved to the server itself. You can check by going to https://email.telus.net in a browser and logging in. As Windows Live Mail was discontinued in January 2017, it is definitely recommended to get a modern email program. Thunderbird for example.
Make sure your settings in WLM2012 match the below ones.

Thank you for all the very useful info. I already have 2 other email accounts with Outlook and Gmail. I really like the look and layout of Windows live 2012.On one Gmail account I see Less secure app access and it is set to ON but I don't even see Less secure app access anywhere on my other Gmail account I use for browsing.

For older email clinets using GMail you will likely need to enable 2-Factor authentication and create an App Password:

I had to do this for my wife that's still using Outlook 2016 which doesn't support modern authentication.
