Adding Additional Router/Modem to Connect Laptop via Etherner for WFH

Hello. I just got a job at Rogers. The role is completely work from home and they will be providing me with all equipments. But they have one condition, which is that the internet must be from a hardwired connection and to connect the laptop via ethernet only.

I live in the basement, and have a Telus Home internet installed at my place. The modem is installed on the upper level of the floor, and I dont have any access to ethernet points. Can anyone please tell me what my option are in this situation? Should I ask telus to add an extra modem at my place in the same line? Will that be possible? If not, please tell what other options do I have. Thanks.

  • Do you have coax near the modem and where your laptop will be located? If yes, a MoCA adapter may be an option, if the Telus gateway you have has a MoCA (coax) port on it. Alternately you potentially could use a powerline networking kit. (an example) That could depend on how your house is wired also.

Are you a tenant? In addition to Nighthawk‘s suggestion, ask your landlord about installing another independent internet service to the dwelling to serve the apartment.
