Scam Alert - Fake TELUS Promotion
Hi everyone,
I wanted to share a scam attempt I experienced recently so others can be aware.
I received multiple calls on my secondary number (not the one I registered with Koodo). The caller had a thick accent and claimed to be from TELUS, offering me a new phone with a plan for $25 today and around $100 monthly. When I mentioned I already had a plan, they said they could cancel it and give me a 50% discount on the new one.
Some red flags:
- They called from several different numbers, including ones that showed up as Bell Mobility.
- After I hung up, they called back spoofing the official TELUS support number.
- I asked for details by email, and they sent me a poorly made PDF from [email protected] (not a TELUS domain).
- When I pressed them for an employee ID, they went silent and hung up.
Numbers they used (from my call log, excluding my local city hall and family):
This is clearly a scam — TELUS does not use third-party emails like @salesperson.net, and spoofing official numbers is a classic scam tactic.
If anyone else gets similar calls, do not give personal information, and hang up right away. Report the numbers to TELUS and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
Not sure it would have helped but I find Call Control very useful for blocking spam calls:
