a friend gave this new wifi router to me and apparently he told me its one of the "best". if i use it instead of the T3200 telus router modem, would my general network speed and range be better..?

would it be bad if I them both running together (say, if used the Netgear R6700 as a client)

Give it a try and see. You may find the router needs to have multicast capability if you use Optik.

The grass isn't always greener on the other side. I just switched out a Netgear R7000 for an Asus RT-AC86U because the Netgear firmware has been terrible lately.

Since the router is free and you are willing to put in the time by all means give it a try. You may find that you will be spending some time on the Netgear support forum.
