[Megathread] Emergency alerts
Wondering why we are getting emergency alerts a few times every hour for Alberta. We are in BC no where near the affected areas.
it defeats the purpose to have an emergency alert system when it is not accurate, people begin to ignore them.

Do these alerts also appear on the Android boxes? I haven't seen an alert come in yet.
- popperoniOrganizerYes and what is becoming more annoying is this site! Telus! Stop having it popup will you take a survey while we are typing and eliminating everything we have done making us start all over again. STUPID!
- popperoniOrganizerSame thing happens trying to read threads. Half way down . Bam. Take a survey? Doesn't matter if you click after I am done or no thank you it takes you right back to the beginning!

FYI Everyone - we've been advised that our team is looking to implement a patch for this asap. Apologies again for the inconvenience of this.

And another one just got raised, for the same alert: Count of 3 now in the last 1/2 hour.

I'm going to keep adding to this thread so Telus understands how incredibly annoying and disruptive this is while trying to relax simply watching a program!
I recommend others do the same so it becomes obvious this is a wide spread problem.
I so look for the day when my cost for cancelling Telus Optik TV meets my ROI requirements.- BNB187OrganizerI’m between a rock and a hard place. Telus and Eastlink are all that are readily available in my area. Was with Eastlink for years but they switched to some Android boxes as well but their version is terrible and glitchy. Combine that with their terrible upload bandwidth on their internet and here I am stuck with Telus. Honestly, outside of these incredibly annoying alerts it’s been pretty good but way more $$ than Eastlink.

Sucks that you don't have options.
The price is reasonable, but we all have been alpha testers (maybe transitioning to beta testing now) for the Telus development - their reduction in price is a good trade off (from their perspective) compared to paying developers and testers. Arguably, it's not a good trade off because they are losing customers due to how badly managed this has been.
From what I've been able to find, Telus is creating their android based TV services from scratch and out sources development to 3SS, a german streaming development company. 3SS does not appear to have much experience with live TV services - so the marriage is not working well yet, and TV services likely won't be acceptable for another year or so. i.e. it's been a year and we still can't extend start/end times for recordings - or for that matter display a list of currently set recordings (we can only edit series recordings if one is scheduled in the next few weeks). There are many other frustrations:
recordings being deleted without warning (before 90 days)
some programs can't be set as a series recording (some news programs have been resolved but not all). series recording are locked to a specific channel (i.e. can't automatically record the first occurance of an episode)
. HDR control is broken (SDR is forced to HDR)
. audio syncing shifts at times - reboots needed to fix sometimes
. recording listing doesn't provide indication you have started watching already (i.e. resume). recording listing doesn't show what recorded channel or date/time
. cannot do bulk deletes on recordings
. cannot set a series recording based on key words. guide doesn't show first airing
. previous searches are not remembered
. system can't skip the home screen on start upNone of the above occured when I was on Shaw.

Still not fixed.
Just received a Tornado Warning for SouthEastern Alberta.
Cripes this is beyond rediculous.
I have received no futher updates from anyone as to the status on this.- BNB187Organizer
Yep been a year now and this is still an issue. I, as well, just got the tornado warning for south eastern Alberta and am located in the lower mainland.
Not sure why it’s so difficult to get these alerts for the affected area only. Was watching global on demand so not sure it has anything to do with channel selection.
EDIT: 3 times in the last half hour for the same alert in Alberta. All while watching an on demand show.

Hello all, we'll be flagging this to our team to look in to and I've merged the newest threads into this one (we aim to keep a tidy house instead of multiple threads about the same thing).
We prepare for an influx of complaints every time the WPA system is tested so while this error (wrong location) isn't exactly anything new...it's still something we'll be investigating as this is for legit warnings, thanks. We'll advise when we hear back from the alert team!
- popperoniOrganizerStill getting Alberta Emergency Warnings.
Tornado this time.
Guess Telus head office in Alberta can't understand southwestern BC is actually a different Location All Together...
- t3chno1dFriendly NeighbourWhy do I keep getting emergency alerts from Alberta on my Telus TV during the NHL playoffs? I live in BC, 1200 kms away. I have a photo of the alert.

Yesterday we received an evacuation alert for Saprae Creek Estates (Wood Buffalo, AB) and today we received a wildfire alert for Lac St Anne, AB.
Can someone please fix this?
It's important that we don't get used to irrelevant alerts to prevent "cry wolf" behaviours.I also hope everyone is safe in Alberta!
Edit: replaced "false" with "irrelevant".

Received another one for Gregoire Estates, Fort McMurray.
Sounds like it's getting bad in Alberta and so early in the season too. Hope it improves.
And hope someone can fix these wayward alerts! Soon!

I was streaming a show on Disney after the hockey game and had an alert there on Alberta. I find that odd since I thought Disney was not a local channel.

And yet another one.
Grande Prairie again. Same channel.
- SJohnCNeighbourStill. Getting. Grande. Prairie. Alerts. Tonight. About every half hour. Stop. I live in Vancouver.

Hi everyone, we are still making adjustments on the backend to ensure everyone is getting the right alerts. If you are still receiving incorrect alerts, can you let me know what type of STBs you have? The newest TELUS TV+ digital box or the older boxes? Thank you!
- RobertJasonFriendly NeighbourOur boxes are the new Telus TV ones
- BNB187OrganizerOptik-KateI’m on the new Android cloud based boxes.
- missprint2NeighbourWe get emergency alerts for both Alberta and Quebec and we’re in BC… just switched from Shaw and questioning our decision for this and other reasons… would love to get all the bugs worked out once and for all!
