Discovery channels shows gone
What the heck?? All Discovery channels are now changed and many shows that we watch are no longer available. Why didn’t Telus announce this prior to us losing the channels? Will we be compensated since our agreement included these channels and now telus removed them???
It looks like that's more of a Rogers concern TBH - they appear to be being anticompetitive by not distributing it anywhere but Rogers. It's not available on any third party provider, including ones that specifically indicated they were trying to obtain access: The great Canadian specialty TV shuffle begins, but it’s not going well for you | **bleep**stein

Not happy, where is deadliest catch? Where is gold Rush? All the replacement stuff is a joke, I’m really feeling ripped off.

As was mentioned earlier in the thread, several channels have undergone rebranding or have been removed / moved to discovery+ due to changes in content distribution agreements. We have a page up at our website detailing the changes here: https://www.telus.com/en/support/article/discovery-channel-changes-rebrand
These industry-wide changes are beyond our control, and we do encourage you to consider subscribing to discovery+ to continue watching a lot of the programs if you'd like!

Why is the solution always to force the spending of more money...? Sure, I could subscribe to Discovery+, on top of the >$270 a month I already pay Telus, to recover channels I specifically chose to subscribe to via OPTIK. Not happening.

They did announced it on TV saying that it was provider initiated shut down. You can find more info if you Google it. The official line is:
The Discovery Channel is not shutting down, but it is rebranding as the USA Network on January 1, 2025. This is part of a realignment of Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) networks in Canada, which also includes:- Oxygen: Replacing ID, which will focus on true crime
- CTV Wild: Replacing Animal Planet
- CTV Nature: Replacing Discovery Science
- CTV Speed Channel: Replacing Discovery Velocity
The rebranding is intended to broaden the scope of the Discovery Channel to include more entertainment programming. - Tricia25Organizer
So I have a contract agreement that included these channels. Now Telus has taken them away and wants me to pay to subscribe to them?? This doesn't make sense. I am already paying to have these channels.\

I just found this thread.. Thanks for getting the ball rolling.. Prior to Jan 2025 my TV preference was channels 700 thru 711... Nowadays Telus feels we are getting quality programming with Cash Cabs reruns from 2003... At the same price... Painful spiral down.. Hopefully there can be a solution.

All impacted channels have been replaced with new networks and programming as of January 1, 2025. While this wasn't a decision made by us, we do hope the channels that came in their place are just as entertaining!

The way this change was announced on the OPTIK guide was quite misleading. It implied the channels were simply changing names, not morphing into something completely different. And definitely NOT "just as entertaining".

Hello! It was announced via the Optik guide as well as with bill messaging in advance. Many programs that were on the Discovery suite have moved exclusively to Crave and Discovery+, both of which are available to subscribe to!

Regardless of where you announced the Discovery Channel removal, in light of the King DT and the Tariff war he is waging against Canada, I really take exception to my favourite channel being removed and replaced with all bloody things the USA Network! As for subscribing to CRAVE, gave it a try, it didn't have enough content for me, and we've since dropped it. Now, you expect me to pay $22 as another SUBSCRIPTION just to watch one Channel. I think you folks need to get it sorted ASAP.

According to the shaw website they still have discovery. Does this mean you want us to subscibe to shaw and leave telus?
