4k PVR and Activation Code Problem

My sister's 4k PVR was a little problematic, so several months ago we received a replacement. The PVR replacement asked for an Activation Code which Telus did not provide. We ended up sending it back and sticking with the old PVR.

The old PVR finally kicked the bucket. The new 4k PVR is again asking for an Activation Code on the screen.

I was on the phone with Telus for over a hour and they asked me to pull the plug 3 times to get the box to reset. After it re-downloaded the configuration, the request for an Activation Code appeared on the screen like before.

Telus tells me they no longer use Activation Codes, so they are sending another box. I have a strong feeling the next box will also require an Activation Code.

The setup is a standalone, wired PVR with two wireless TV terminals connecting to the T3200M modem/router. The two terminals work for watching TV, but no programs can be recorded. Trying to avoid the cloud box.

Has anyone encountered this problem before and what was the resolution?

  • Telus did something overnight, so now the PVR is working after a power cycle this morning.

  • They were suppose to text my sister an activation code, but instead they said they made "changes to the account" and that it should work. Of course, those "changes" did nothing. Telus is threatening to charge her if they have to show up to fix the problem. There is nothing a tech can do anyways, if they can't custom program the PVR. We've been long time customers of Telus, and it's not our fault. All we want is an activation code.

After 2 hrs using self help, I called. After 1 1/2 hours they let me go saying it would take 1 to 2 hrs more to fix.

I already switched my phones to Roger's from tells due to poor service. If this isn't fixed in 2 hours, I'll be switching my cable and internet also

  • I had a tech in for an issue that remains unresolved. He didn't't change my PVR but when he finished doing what he was doing, I saw that the TV was requesting an activation code. He couldn't fix it. He had to call someone. He got tired of waiting and left. it had to be resolved at the back office and they were having trouble.

I have the same issue that started this morning.

Sunday Jan 5 10:30am installed new replacement PVR Optic box as per instructions. Started and got to the trouble code

        ERROR CODE  DVC_RTRN_001

Contacted  TELUS via call number  indicated on the screen ON HOLD 1 hour plus. About  12:10 pm contact made

An TELUS Tech agent and I worked through several  tests  and ended at a screen calling for a registration activation code number.

I supplied the Tech the GUID

I supplied the Tech the MAC Address

The tech than said they had to submit a request for activation and  would call back in 1 hour. Approx 1:00pm

Approx 1:30pm return call from tech restarted the PVR Optic box again end at a screen calling for a registration activation code number.  2:00pm Tech said will call back no time given

Approx 6:00 still no call back. Performed another PVR Box restart, same result.

I have again started a request for a morning call back at 8am

  • I did a hard reset on the latest box, by unplugging it three times, forcing it to download the configuration. It's still asking for an activation code.

Is there some manual configuration needed to the T3200M to help with registering?

There shouldn't be, no. How long ago did you receive this box?

  • Telus sent us another PVR box. Exact same problem - asking for activation code. This is ridiculous.

That's definitely not what I'm expecting after a 3rd box. The boxes should self-register and generally speaking. restarting it by unplugging it/plugging it back in, should force it to register once connected to the network.

Have you tried unplugging it and plugging the new one back in to see if it can self-register?
