February is almost here, and NETFLIX isn't pulling any punches in terms of dropping some highly anticipated new movies and series. Some big titles are returning, as well as the first spinoff series of a popular series that I can't wait to binge on. So let's take a look at what's headed our way, as well as what I'm hooked on now!

Coming To NETFLIX in February

  • February 2 - Sweet Magnolias (Season 2)
    • The feel-good drama series returns to share more stories of three lifelong friends.
  • February 18- Space Force (Season 2)
    • The smash workplace comedy starring Steve Carell returns for a second season.
  • February 25 - Vikings: Valhalla (Season 1)
    • The highly anticipated spinoff set a century after the original series.

Most Anticipated

Vikings: Valhalla (Season 1)

This looks awesome! The first official spin-off of the original smash Vikings series drops in February, and I can't wait. Neither can many others apparently as NETFLIX has given it a massive upfront order of 24 episodes across three seasons...all before it has even aired! Set a century after the original series, Vikings have taken over most of England and are making their way into Normandy. The fabled Leif Eriksson (Sam Corlett) meets some of the other best-known Norsemen in history such as Emma of Normandy and William the Conqueror on his journey to be the first European to set foot on North America.

The series focuses on these characters as the end of the Viking Age draws near. After the death of King Edward the Confessor, three lords make claim to the English throne, including Leif himself. As the Vikings have overrun most of England, the three characters command legions of armies to fight for total control.

I loved all six season of the original Vikings series, so I'm definitely onboard for this to get going. Vikings did well to balance the sheer brutality and violence of the era with a poignant study of pride, nobility, monarchy, and intellect. I'm a huge fan of series that reveal more about an era that we always think we know everything about, only to learn that despite the caricature of Vikings...they were smarter and more cunning than most give them credit for. I've always been a fan of intriguing series such as The Tudors and of course Game of Thrones, so if you are too...be sure to check out Vikings: Valhalla when it drops on February 25!

What I'm Watching Now

Cobra Kai (Season 4)

Have you binged on a show and suddenly felt the slight panic as you neared the end? Knowing that you wouldn't have anything else to watch, or that it'd be a long wait until the next possible season returned? Yep, been there. Fortunately, even though the episodes of this series are fairly short (approx. 30 min), you now have FOUR entire seasons to binge on in order to catch up! And binge you shall, trust me. The ultra-popular Cobra Kai series dropped its fourth season on December 31, and it continues the famous Karate Kid story in a fantastic way!

For the uninitiated, Cobra Kai tells the continuing story of Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) from the original smash 80's Karate Kid  movies. Set 34 years later, Johnny decides to reopen the Cobra Kai karate dojo and rekindle his old high school rivalry with Daniel. Now, their children and other returning characters enter the fold, including the unpleasant John Kreese (Johnny's old instructor) and now finally, the third film's villain...the evil Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith)!!

Season 4 starts with Daniel and Johnny working together (I never would've saw that coming in a million years!) after a deal is made with Kreese that the loser of the next All Valley Karate Tournament must shut their own dojo down for good. Kreese recruits Terry Silver to help him defeat Daniel and Johnny, and the ultimate showdown is set for their students to face off once and for all! I loved this entire series, and was also surprised by its stellar comedic aspect; the writers definitely wanted to keep the action and intrigue from the original film trilogy, but I love how funny these characters are. It's the perfect blend of laughter and high kicks to make this a series you should definitely check out. All four season are streaming on NETFLIX right now!!
