Hey everyone! It's hard to believe but the summer is almost coming to a close. August is almost here and while it's typically a slower time of year for new streaming content, Netflix begs to differ. Next month sees a ton of great new shows and movies headed our way, including the long-awaited release of a fantasy series based on arguably the biggest graphic novel series of all time! Remember, it's never been easier to add NETFLIX to your Optik TV package, and you can see how to do that at our website!

You can also subscribe to Netflix as part of our awesome Stream+ package to get Netflix Premium, Apple TV+ and discovery+ all at a discounted rate!

Let's take a look at some of the highly anticipated titles streaming in August as well as what I'm hooked on now!

Coming To Netflix in August

  • August 5 - The Sandman (Season 1)
    • The long-awaited fantasy drama based on the world renowned Neil Gaiman graphic novel series.
  • August 12 - Day Shift
    • Vampire hunting action-comedy starring Jamie Foxx, Dave Franco, and Snoop Dogg.
  • August 26 - Me Time
    • Highly anticipated comedy starring Mark Wahlberg and Kevin Hart.

Most Anticipated

The Sandman (Season 1)

Much like the classic graphic novel Watchmen and a few others, many have said the acclaimed series The Sandman is unfilmable. They'll never make it as good as the books were. Well, we're about to see Netflix take a swing at proving those people wrong when the first season drops next month. It doesn't hurt that creator Neil Gaiman is onboard as a main developer along with the great David S. Goyer (screenplay writer for The Dark Knight and Blade trilogies among others). If anyone's going to do this thing right, it's those guys...so I have faith that this will be spectacular.

For the uninitiated, The Sandman is a sprawling dark fantasy tale that is...hard to summarize! It tells the story of Dream (aka Morpheus, aka The Sandman), who is the personification of all dreams and stories (he can make himself look like anything). In 1916, he's captured and imprisoned by a group of black magic occultists until the year 1988 when he escapes. He then sets out to regain control of the Dreaming (the astrophysical plane he usually inhabits) and the powers he once possessed. Whew! That's a lot...but think of it basically as a powerful being breaking free from imprisonment and setting off on a journey to reclaim the power he had. Along the way he comes across a host of characters, angels, demons, and even the all powerful Lucifer himself...many of them out to stop Dream from achieving his goal.

Check this trailer out and you'll see how amazing this looks!

It definitely has the look and feel of the original comic series and I cannot wait to check out all 10 episodes when they drop on Netflix next week, August 5. Be sure to check it out!

What I'm Watching Now

Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend

The classic cooking competition returns! After many years away, the reboot is back and honestly, it's better than ever! Alton Brown returns to host, with the campy 'The Chairman' (Mark Dacascos) returning as well, as contestant chefs challenge the world renowned Iron Chefs to cookoffs with secret ingredients. The ingredients have to be the base for every dish prepared so what these chefs end up making is pretty unique. There's humor, great food, and a brisk enough pace that each episode seems to go by really quickly. After a long day or scary thriller movie, there's no better way to end the night than to kick back and relax with this show!

All 8 episodes of this first season are now streaming on Netflix, and you're sure to enjoy yourself. Don't miss it!
