scam prevention

Had a door knock by 3 different people wearing Telus T-Shirts and carrying badges to offer Internet deals. Started talking to one Pempa Tamang. Deal was interesting so I proceeded with conversation - he took my number and texted me details from his number 236-[Mod Edit, removed personal info]. However when I call that number, I get “this call cannot be completed as dialed”. Pempa then called me from 888-[Mod edit, removed personal info] and said it’s a recorded call to proceed with registration. He asked me to text him my drivers license photos - when I said I’m not comfortable he said I could read out the details since it’s a recorded call. I asked him to send me an email from a Telus.com email address to give me the plan details, but he sent it from pe***********[Mod Edit - removed personal info]@gmail.com instead. When I call the 0122 number back, I get a Telus automated response but his unwillingness or inability to send anything from a Telus.com email and the issue with calling his cell made me suspicious. Is this person legitimate? I am attracted by the deal (which isn’t unreasonably cheap so not an obvious scam) but trying to be cautious.98Views0likes1CommentMobility offer - scam or great deal?
Received a call from 888-519-0122 - said they were calling from Telus. Being polite, and having time, I was curious about the offer - asked about some kind of streaming / mobile plan bundle. Eventually landed on talking about $35 / month / line deal for mobile - unlimited talk / text CAN + US, 5G LTE, etc. I asked to be emailed the details - he said he couldn't do that (something about competitors getting the info?). Seemed a bit off. So I asked for a call back b/c I was busy. When he called back, I asked for additional verification that he was from Telus. He read account details (billing details, etc.). These were accurate. He then sent an automated "how to sign up for an e-sim" email that was also legit. When I call back the number, it goes to a Telus automated menu. However, when googling the number, I came across these two conflicting posts with Telus: Post 1: It IS a legitimate number (https://forum.telus.com/discussions/mobile_devices/is-this-a-scam/171441) Post 2: It is NOT a legitimate number (https://forum.telus.com/discussions/mobile_devices/verify-telus-number/174523) Anyway - I read somewhere that you can ask the rep to post a comment on your Telus account that you can then login to see. He said he didn't know how. So I said that if he can figure that out, I'm interested. If not, sorry. So - am I too paranoid or appropriately cautious?66Views0likes0CommentsTelus Call - 866-369-9826
I got a call from "Telus" from this number and they said they could offer me a $40 phone plan. We didn't get to any talk about putting my PIN in or anything like that. I've heard people get scammed this way, and I am usually good as sussing out these ones. This one however has been calling for a week straight. Anyone know about this one? 866-369-98261.2KViews0likes2Comments
