70 TopicsNew to Fibre Phone/Internet: Installation & Wiring questions
HI. So our Strata Complex is switching over to Telus PureFibre, but we didn't get any explanation on how it "should" be done. I have reviewed what Telus says on there FibreUpgrade page, and tried to understand The-Story-of-My-Fibre-Install forum post, but I have some questions. My Line Diagram for Fibre installation: TELUS CO --- "Last 100 metre" Cable Phone Pole --- House (External) --- Drill Through Wall --- Fibre Goes where?? Telus runs Optical cable from the CO to the "last mile", and then to your home. But where on (or in) your home does the Telus Fibre Optical cable terminate and what is that called (Demarcation box? )? Does the Telus Fibre connect to an active "Fibre-to-Copper" conversion box? What is the general term for this box, and what is the 2021 current brand / model that they use (so I can look up its datasheet 😄 )? I assume this conversion box connects up to the existing (twisted pair) copper wiring you have in your house (so no need to run Cat 5e or 6, copper Ethernet cables, or different then RJ11 copper phone cables), so that you can use all your current phone and router electronics. Is this a wrong assumption, and if so what does the conversion box output? In a multi-level house / townhome, will Telus run the Fibre cable to the mid-level of the house even if the current copper house wiring terminates on the ground floor / basement? Now that I write this maybe that isn't the best idea, but the thought of having an active "fibre to copper" conversion electronic device in my unfinished parking garage, on the ground floor, rarely monitored, seems like a bad idea (heat/fire safety for example, or just dust, car soot, and bugs damaging it). What would be the recommended way to "hook up" Telus PureFibre to a 3 level Townhome, where the 1st level is just a ground floor garage? Personally I would like to see all active electronics on the 2nd level, somewhere above the garage. Thanks, and feel free to add any information you think I didn't ask but would be good to know - links are fine.12KViews0likes3CommentsUnion Bay Estates / Kennsington Developements Fibre Connection?
Im just going through past announcements ect and it suggest that union bay will have 14,000 new single family units when they construction of all the residential is over. You can see the groundwork for all this playing it self out now with street lamps, roadway and the leveling of dirt in order to prepare for more condos, and residentials. My question is that according to this fibre would be needed to expand and connect the killmarnock district etc for kennsington properties etc for union bay estates nearly 2000 acres I believe. To make a long story short I signed up to be one of the expansion homes on fiber list and wondering if you wouldn't mind just connecting me first on the way to union bay estates. Thanks.8.1KViews0likes9CommentsTelus pure fibre connection help
Hello everyone, I had my home tv and internet connections upgraded through my Strata. Telus came and installed their pure fibre wires and new boxes to connect to my suite. Now I have recently upgraded my TV and AVR to 4K compatible tech and purchased cat 8 Ethernet cables. However I just noticed that I didn’t replace the ones that came with the Telus hardware ONT/T3200m. Now my question is, what cat rating is the cable that would have come with the Telus equipment, specifically the ONT box from the wall that connects to the T3200m, and do I need to upgrade that cat cable.? Please help, thank you5.1KViews0likes3CommentsPurefibre Internet Gigabit and Optik TV Install Nightmare
I'm having a horrible time getting my internet hooked up. Has anyone else had any issues with TELUS technician "no shows"? I have had 3 confirmed appointments booked in the last ten days and each time the technician has failed to show up. TELUS technical support has been no help. I think I've spent more time with them in the last couple of weeks that my own family. The only thing that keeps it fresh is that every time I call TELUS technical support it's like starting from square one. I have to spend ten minutes explaining all of the previous failures of the technical support team, then they apologize profusely, then they tell me the problem has been solved. When I realize problem hasn't been solved, I call back and we start all over. It's an exquisite little dance we repeat over and over again.2.1KViews1like3CommentsBridge mode on recent modems?
Hi, I'm contemplating moving from Bell to Telus but I want to be sure it is possible to configure the recent Telus Fiber modems in bridge mode. I already have a complet network configuration and I don't want to have to change anything. Thanks.Solved2KViews0likes2CommentsTELUS Boost Wi-Fi 7 Buggy?
I recently upgraded to PureFibre 3G and needed a couple of TELUS Boost Wi-Fi 7 in my setup. The goal of the secondary Boost 7 is to replace my old Netgear router, which created a secondary Wifi network to manage the signal conflicts I previously had. I was hoping to just renamed the SSID to my old and all should be working as previously (in theory). The main Boost 7 worked as expected, but setting up the additional one was not intuitive as the "magic" of auto-configuration for meshing does not work and there is no visible WiFi signal. I ended up searching the Boost IP address by logging into the NAH and once in, I was NOT able to see the general settings around "SSID" (or anything else that I could possibly configure for that matter). I tried the alternative method of using the TELUS Connect or Smarthome+, but neither of them had a option or visibility into the Boost 7. It's all very confusing as what I search in Google or in this Neighborhood seems to be inconsistent. Has anyone else solved this or are you all in the same boat? At this point, I may have to purchase a new router instead and go back to my original setup...699Views0likes3Comments
