Had our 3 old Telus Optik boxes replaced with the minis. What a downgrade: The feed often freezes or just goes blank, particularly when pausing live TV Periodic notifications that the remote has "disconnected" and the whole system becomes non-responsive Severe lag when using the skip forward or backward feature - just feels unstable Cannot extend recordings beyond the pre-determined time (make recording sporting events almost useless) Any suggestions for work arounds - or can we just request that our old (but functional) boxes get returned?1.2KViews1like43CommentsNew Telus TV Android Device questions
I received a Telus email saying my current TV box technology (made by Cisco with the PVR having a 320GB internal hard drive) will be discontinued soon and I should upgrade to the new TV boxes which appear to be Android based. The Telus web page describing the update is not clear on how the PVR recordings and cloud will work in the new system. At one point it says my current recordings will be moved to the new box. However I believe the new box only has a small amount of storage so I don’t think my 250GB of old recordings can fit in the new box. So will my old recordings actually get copied to the cloud? Another part of the Telus web page says I need to have the cloud recording feature on my account. I don’t have this. Do I need to have Cloud Recording activated (probably for an extra monthly fee) to use PVR recordings? I can see how Cloud Recording would be required if I wanted to watch one of my PVR recordings at a hotel or other random location. Do I need to have Cloud Recording even to watch a PVR recording on my home TV? If all PVR recordings will be on the cloud, it seems to me that a customer who records and watches several hours of videos each day will be using a lot of internet data. My account has a 300GB monthly data limit. Will I need to upgrade to an account with unlimited data?Solved133Views0likes3CommentsRemoved channels still active
I am a recent Optik convert, and made a change to my package. I changed my premium from crave to netflix. However, a week later and regular daily box reboots, I still have the crave channels on my subscribed list and they work on the tv. Not wanting to get something I am no longer paying for, I am very concerned about this. My bill shows correct with no crave. My Wife thinks I should just remove them from my favorites list and let it be, but I am worried about it being detected and billed to me as year down the road. I have other channels I do not pay for like outtv and a&e, but chalked that up to free previews. So should I be concerned?57Views0likes3CommentsYour television cannot support HDCP (H1001)
I turned on my Sony TV today and I received the following flashing warning: Your television cannot support HDCP video over your high definition connection (H1001) This has happened a couple of times recently and a reboot of PVR brings it back to "normal". Obviously this solution is only temporary! Nothing has changed. The TV router connection is still the same CAT connection. CAT6 (shielded), in conduit, from the TV wall plate to the router wall plate. CAT6 (shielded) from the wall plate to the router CAT7 from the wall plate to the TV The HDMI cable is the same Reboot of the PVR brings things back but I'm getting tired of this! PVR (VIP5662W) was replaced earlier this year! Thoughts/help appreciated! RickSolved116Views0likes5CommentsRemoving unsubscribed favourites
I updated my TV package, and I now have a few channels listed as favourites that I am no longer subscribed to. How can I unfavourite these and stop them from showing up in the list? Every attempt to do so just results in telling me that I am not subscribed to that channel.126Views0likes7CommentsStreaming on TELUS - September 2026
Hey everyone! Hope you're doing well and enjoying the end of summer! September is right around the corner, and another month means another new batch of great movies and shows to check out on Optik TV! Remember, you can catch all the hottest new content as part of our awesome Stream+ package to get Netflix Premium, Disney+ and Prime Video all at a discounted rate! Let's take a look at some of the highly anticipated titles streaming in September as well as what I'm hooked on now! Coming in September September 2 - Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu - Disney+ The feature length Star Wars film featuring everyone's favorite Mandalorian bounty hunter and his young apprentice. September 3 - The Gentlemen (Season 2) - Netflix The long awaited return of the hit action comedy series from Guy Ritchie. Most Anticipated Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu - Disney+ Finally, the highly anticipated new Star Wars movie hits Disney+! The Mandalorin and Grogu picks up after the third season of the hit Disney+ series, with the titular bounty hunter Din Djarin and his foundling Grogu, doing what he does best: hunting down neo-imperialist warlords of the former Galactic Empire. His latest mission finds him chasing a dangerous target, and the only way he can get intel on where to find him is by rescuing Rotta the Hutt, son of the legendary Jabba! I caught this in theaters and definitely enjoyed it. All the makings of a classic Star Wars movie are here, from fantastic sets and creatures to charming comedy and plot twists you'll never see coming. The heartwarming relationship between Mando and Grogu shines in this fun story. Definitely a great family film to enjoy, and one that no Star Wars fan should miss. Catch Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu when it drops September 2 only on Disney+! What I'm Watching Now Reacher (Season 4) - Prime Video I'm a huge fan of the Reacher series starring Alan Ritchson. Now that the fourth season is finally airing on Prime Video, I can safely say it's one of the best political action thriller series running today. Fans of Ritchson's portrayal of the hulking ex-military police officer will no doubt love his continued physical dominance and deadpan delivery. Season 4 finds the always-wandering Reacher in Philadelphia, and naturally danger and mystery find him once again. An encounter with a visibly distressed woman on the subway finds Reacher dragged into a conspiracy bigger than even he could ever imagine. I love this series for its plot twists and sharp writing, combined with its brutal, realistic fight scenes and action. That along with Ritchson's portrayal of the title character being so undeniably charming that you can't help but root for him as he works to get out of whatever jam he's in. Episodes are airing weekly and will run through mid September, so you have time to catch up on the newest season of the fantastic Reacher, now streaming on Prime Video! ICYMI: Not subscribed to Stream+ yet? No worries! You can add it to your Optik TV package at any time! Find out more here!

July 23rd our PVR box (UIW8001) stopped functioning and a reboot resulting in a RED X. Use Telus automated tools to try and resolve. It detected a problem and we needed to call support. Our call to tech support took an hour to be answered and the technician determined the PVR was dead and needed to be replaced. He indicated a replacement was being shipped. On July 27th VIP5662W PVR arrived. Plugged in and it stopped at the "Registration / Activation Code required" screen. Rinse and repeat with automated tool. Call to tech support, another hour+ wait time or callback option in two days!! Spoke with agent, who opened ticket with back office to resolve problem. Was told it would take up to 24 hours and we'd receive text or phone call when resolved. July 28th, no call however VIP5662W would properly boot. However it indicated it could not find PVR. Rinse and repeat with automated tool. August 10th. Called, waited an hour or so again and finally got an agent. He confirmed box should act as PVR, did some troubleshooting without success, so another ticket opened. Again wait 24-48 hours and we'd receive text or phone call when resolved. August 12th, Telus called and indicated old PVR still on account, blocking the new PVR from functioning. Now fixed. Instructed to reboot 3 times. Now back at the "Registration / Activation Code required" screen. Rinse and repeat with automated tool. August 14th, called yet again, long wait time (1 hour vs 15 minutes indicated) to speak to support. Representative tried to resolve without success. He even went as far as telling me to hard reset our network access hub. This was problematic for other household members would had to stop working via Internet connection. Also determined after the fact that all our settings in network access hub were lost. Still no success so maybe refurbished box was the issue. Another one to be shipped. August 18th, new to us UIW8001 (marked Refurbished) arrived. Guess what, when booted it again halted at the "Registration / Activation Code required" screen.167Views0likes9CommentsJays homes games no longer in 4K?
The Jays home game broadcasts look like they are no longer being broadcast in 4K. The picture on 420 is no different than the other Sportsnet channels. Did Roger’s stop producing 4K broadcasts? All home games used to be in 4K. Why do we even pay for 4K sports channels any more?230Views0likes8CommentsTelus Ch. 965 Inultra schedule issues
I recently noted that I have access to Telus channel 965, Inultra. Looking at the schedule, there seem to be some programs worth recording. I set for four of them, according to the schedule, and got completely different programs. Looking at the channel 965 schedule, I can see no correlation at all to what is actually shown. Not just the times, but the actual programs! I ended up recording programs on flying drones, which do not appear in the schedule anytime on any day. I was looking for the program 'Breakthrough' which is on the schedule but not on the actual channel. Can Telus please confirm that the Telus guide schedule for Ch. 965 is actually correct? Thank you.171Views0likes3CommentsFail to Pair Telus Remote with Roku Plus Series TV
When pairing the "Telus TV Remote" with a Roku Plus Series TV, the mute and volume buttons work, but when I accept the code (any of 3) and continue (complete), then the buttons no longer work. Oddly the Power button does work. Process: Settings > Device settings > Remotes & Accessories > Program Remote with TV Search for Roku TV, and select Press Mute and Volume up/Down (they work) Select "Yes, Finish" (volume still works) Select "Continue" (now back to Remotes & Accessories) Now the Mute and Volume buttons no longer work. Only the Power button works. It is as if the remote failed to store (save) the code. The remote: The Roku TV: Model 55R6CX; Hardware ID P403XSolved316Views0likes3Comments
