When/If Google Home Voice Assistant compatibility will be added?

Will Telus be updating the PikTV to support Google Home voice control? I would like to be able to instruct my Google Home to turn on/off or play items on my PikTV just like Google Home can with a Chromecast. Sony TVs with Android TV built in have had this functionality since last year and the Nvidia Shield Androud TV box added Google Voice Assistant support a few months ago. Is this something Telus will be adding?

That has been suggested : https://forum.telus.com/t5/Ideas/Google-Home-integration/idi-p/78963

Whether or not the the technology is compatible, and if they are, what it would take to get it to work are the big questions.

That suggestion is for Optik TV though. Pik TV literally runs Androind TV and should be much easier to implement.

Hardware and Android wise, the Google Home can see the PikTV. Software wise the Pik app itself doesn't appear to support Google Home at this time. In the future it might but it may be a bit of a wait.

True, BUT Google Home Voice Assistant cannot control the Android TV either. Ignore the PikTV app for now.

If you have a Sony TV running Android TV or a Nvidia Shield, you can give a voice command to Google Home to launch "Youtube" on "Living Room TV" and it'll execute the command. The version of Android TV running on the PikTV box doesn't support voice commands from Google Home in its current state. The Google Home app can see the PikTV box and you can cast apps (like Youtube) to the PikTV, but you cannot use Google Home voice commands to initiate this.

I have a Google Home and Pik TV box. I will double check later but last time I checked, I could play Youtube Videos on Pik TV via Google Home. Netflix did not work but that was Netflix's Android TV app incompatibility and not something to do with Pik TV.

So you are correct, it appears only limited apps work with Google Home (mine must have been missing an update when I originally configured it as it now appears as a device to be controlled).

I managed to sideload the google assistant (google app) in my sony W800c running on Android 6 and it works like nvidia shield, however when I sideload to piktv, the appearance looks like the google assistant in shield, but it does not function as assistant (e.g. turn on/off smart home devices).
