Pik TV is now on Apple TV

Hey Neighbours, some exciting news! We're dedicated to providing you with new and exciting features that make streaming live TV better and easier. Our latest milestone puts Pik TV for the first time on Apple TV, providing an overall enhanced viewing experience without the need for additional hardware.

Here's some info on how to watch Pik TV on your Apple TV.

1) Start watching live TV on your Apple TV

Using your Apple TV 4K or any 4th generation Apple TV device, simply download the Pik TV app and login using your My TELUS credentials.

2) On Demand purchases

Currently, On Demand purchases are unavailable via the Pik app on Apple TV. We're working hard to enable this feature. In the meantime, you can easily make On Demand purchases through your browser or any Android device. In addition, you are still able to watch already purchased assets on your Apple devices.

3) Having issues with your Apple TV?

TELUS does not support hardware issues for Apple TV. For Apple TV related issues, please contact Apple directly or visit support.apple.com/en-ca.

How do you control Close Captioning for Pik app installed on an Apple TV.   Easy to  do on a Pik TV remote but I cannot turn off CC on the Pik app running on my Apple TV ?

Swipe down on the remote. Below the title and time bar you will see 3 icons (i) on the right and (cc) and (ad) on the left. Swipe over to (cc) and click

Further if you swipe down again while on live tv you will see the quick access bar. Swipe left right to quickly access other channels.

How much data would it consume if its not connected to your telus home internet?

It depends on the picture quality of the video you are streaming. Telus does not publish the info, but for comparison, Netflix streams at approximately the following rates:

ResolutionStreaming BitrateHourly Conversion
480p (720×480)1750 kbps~792 MB per hour
720p (1280×720)3000 kbps~1.3 GB per hour
1080p (1920×1080)4300-5800 kbps~1.9 GB to ~2.55 GB per hour
1440p (2560×1440)6350 kbps~2.8 GB per hour
4K (3840×2160)8000-16000 kbps~3.5 GB to ~7 GB per hour

Hello! Can’t seem to find an answer to this anywhere! But does Pik TV use data when watched on an Apple TV? And what about on a laptop while at home using my TELUS internet
TIA

PIK is a IPTV encrypted signal through a private network. Netflix is through the public internet. No , PIK does not use
your data but Netflix does.

The Apple TV does not change the nature of the signal. The-set box decodes the signal.

What version of Apple TV with PikTV run on?  Only the current 4k version?  Non-4k 4th gen?  3rd gen?

Thanks.

It will only run on Apple TV 4K and 4th generation only.

This is awesome! great milestone. Is there a timeline for being able to cast PikTV from our phones?

To my knowledge there isn’t any provider in Canada that allows live tv casting.

On the new pure fibre plans page Telus has an Ad which suggests trying Pik TV. The image they use clearly has the casting symbol which is very misleading. You have more clout here so maybe bring it up to someone. I can pm a pic of it.

@brownknuckles yes please can you send me a screenshot and I'll raise this with the right people to have this corrected. I agree this would be misleading if you were trying to cast/Airplay content as that is not supported at this time. Thanks for the flag!

How do we receive messages from Santa'slittlehelper  , I was to get one.  Thanks

Can I use the Apple TV app on my Shaw internet? We have Shaw at our lake property. It is in the same province as our home. I would switch to Telus but Shaw is faster right now at the lake.

@Jason_S As long as you have TELUS HSIA at your home (same address as the one you subscribed to with Pik TV) you should be good to go, but you'll only receive content that is available out of home.

Is there a plan for Telus to remap the play/pause button to guide?

That one downfall I notice. Since there is no guide button on menu.

Add-on to my last
Voice on the Apple tv goes to the Apple store.

Should also be able to search on TV programmations.

@Patthe thanks for the feedback - we're working hard to implement some changes to the app including some of the ones suggested. At the moment, if you use Voice in the Search section of the Pik TV menu on tvOS then it will return Pik TV results. Using Voice anywhere else in the app does currently bring up Apple's results, but we're working to address this.

I am having a problem where I get a black screen with my Apple TV PIK set up after about an hour and  a bit  Perhaps I need to adjust the sound periodically.  I adjusted the go to sleep and did a hard reboot  as well as reinstalling PIK . I hope there  is a solution. I much prefer using the ATV over the Android box.  This problem seems to be only when I use PIK on Apple TV.

@Nivende2

Does this happen as a show changes at the hour or half hour? If so, it is a known issue.
