***FIXED*** I figured out how to get the Silverlight issue working with Safari on a Mac. Updated to MacOS Sierra today and its WORKING!!

If you already have Silverlight installed - Open Safari and Navigate to the Optik On The Go website. https://onthego.telus.com

Log into your account and attempt to watch any channel, you will get the same error.

Then, in the main menu bar, go to the "Safari" dropdown menu and select - "Preferences"

The choose "Security"

Beside "Internet Plug-ins" - click the button "Plug-in Settings"

Find and highlight "Silverlight"

On the right you will see "Currently Open Websites". Beside onthego.telus.com change the dropdown option to "On"

Click "Done" and you should be good to go.

It worked of me, I hope that works for you all as well.

Live TV? http://www.globaltv.com/schedule/?callsign=CHAN but their website is busted. I can't get it to log in with either my Telus ID or my Shaw ID.

To clarify.... is Optik to Go on a laptop supposed to behave like on my iPad or Android tablet?

Not all channels are available for viewing for each device. You may take a look into this link: http://www.telus.com/content/tv/optik/programming/tv-on-demand.jsp to see which channels are available on what device.

Hello,

Global Go is available to you if you have Optik services. The Global GO application is a new feature that allows you  to stream and view shows on a particular device  while at home or away from home, using any internet-enabled computer or supported smartphone. It can be streamed on both data network and WiFi.

You can access it on your laptop through this link  -  http://www.globaltv.com/watchlive/. then you will be prompted to log in with your Optik TV account - the same one you used to log into Optik on the Go.

A little update....

The link I was looking for is www.telus.com/optikonline.  I found it here... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLTiSGThGqs&t=58s

This works on my Win8 machine.  But fails on my Vista/IE9 machine.  It also fails on Ubuntu w/ Firefox & Chrome.  On my Vista/IE9 machine I get an error "The same version of Silverlight is already installed.".  Ubuntu doesn't like Silverlight.

Does www.telus.com/optikonline offer live TV for other Telus customers???

Those other Global sites are great for primetime shows, but does not offer full content.

Ok figured it out..... My Vista/IE9 was running in 64-bit mode.  Silverlight needs to be in 32bit.

Hi,  Telus has admitted as much to having issues making Optik on the Go compatible again with Mac users.  If any of you have further info, it would be appreciated.

When did Telus admit anything? Their support people are nearly completely Mac illiterate. They'll tell you whatever they can to get you off the phone if a Mac issue comes up.

As long as Silverlight is installed on your Mac, you should be able to use Optik on the Go. It works for me in Safari. Firefox is less cooperative. What problem are you seeing?

Nighthawk.

I keep getting 10000/3222 error code.  I've tried reinstalling Silverlight multiple times.  Same either with Firefox or Safari.

Any ideas you can give appreciated.  It all worked fine on my Mac initially.  But no more.

Thanks.

What version of OSX, Silverlight, and browsers are you running?

When you reinstalled Silverlight, did you do the following?

Delete Silverlight:

  1. Double-click the Hard Drive icon on your desktop.
  2. Navigate to your Internet Plug-Ins directory: /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/.
  3. Drag any of the following files you may see into your trash bin:
    • Silverlight.plugin
    • WPFe.plugin

Reinstall Silverlight:

  1. Open your Internet browser.
  2. Go to http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/ and follow instructions to reinstall latest version of Microsoft Silverlight.
  3. Close and restart your Internet browser.
  4. Return to video page and retry the video that gave you the error message.

Please reboot your Mac if the the issue persists.

Global Go requires valid TV subscription that includes Global. All of the apps will including CTV, CityTV, etc. Only option that won't will be any content the TV channels host on their website for people to access free but leaves you with very limited options.

You will have no access to any Optik services if you go internet only.

Also @cafekief please just start a new thread when your question is completely unrelated to the existing thread you post a response under, like this one. If anyone else had the same question they'd never find it buried here.

Curious how there seems to be no rush or urgency to fix the Optik on the Go, vs Mac issues.  Not all on the planet run windows.  Ridiculous.  But thanks for your replies etc.

It's been said before - this forum is primarily users, not Telus employees. The issue is on your end. Other Mac users that have replied are not having the issue. Microsoft has basically discontinued Silverlight so there's not a lot that can be done. Silverlight 5 was initially released in 2011 and there were only a handful of very minor updates since.

@Nighthawk

I've now found my way through to the 10000/3222 error when trying to watch live TV: 'An error occurred retrieving the video. Please try again.'

Looks like a major re-work of the software will be necessary of it to function for Safari, and Microsoft Edge Browsers.

Microsoft Edge does not have support for Silverlight or ActiveX and never will. Microsoft is transitioning away from Silverlight in favor of newer tech that doesn't require plugins (primarily HTML5). Silverlight is dying and Microsoft is moving away from it. There will be no re-working of the software since it's been effectively discontinued aside from the odd security update. That also means Safari support is going with it. Chrome has already dropped support for it since Chrome 45. For OSX, If 10.6 and under, support ended in 2014. For 10.7-10.11 on Firefox 42+ & Safari  6.0+, support ends 2016/12/31.

Silverlight system requirements - Has footnote *** Silverlight is not available in the Microsoft Edge browser, but is supported in Internet Explorer.

Microsoft's Windows Blog

Microsoft Edge and Silverlight

Support for ActiveX has been discontinued in Microsoft Edge, and that includes removing support for Silverlight.  The reasons for this have been discussed in previous blogs and include the emergence of viable and secure media solutions based on HTML5 extensions.  Microsoft continues to support Silverlight, and Silverlight out-of-browser apps can continue to use it.  Silverlight will also continue to be supported in Internet Explorer 11, so sites continue to have Silverlight options in Windows 10.  At the same time, we encourage companies that are using Silverlight for media to begin the transition to DASH/MSE/CENC/EME based designs and to follow a single, DRM-interoperable encoding work flow enabled by CENC.  This represents the most broadly interoperable solution across browsers, platforms, content and devices going forward.

Sorry, I meant  rework of the Optik on the Go software to use HTML 5 or similar.

Sorry, agreed. The company behind all of those apps will have to rework things and I hope they get it done soon. HTML5 does pose it's own challenges. I've been trying to get around those limitations for something I'm working on but haven't found a solution yet.

You are very knowledgeable.  Wished I was.  I've never been good at digging in to fix stuff for PC's.  If you ever hear of a solution etc, that even us tech challenged folks could or should hear about, it would be greatly appreciated.

Issue not on my end or specific to my mac.  chatted with Win 10 users who also have issues.  What is obvious is Telus not bothering about the whole business.  Should not be this much trouble to use one of their features.

Again, Silverlight is the core of the problem. It's outdated and essentially discontinued. The current release of Silverlight released 5 years ago so it'll likely have issues with newer operating systems and browsers, if the browsers even support it anymore (Chrome, Edge don't). Newer versions of Mac OSX and Windows 10 included. This has nothing to do with Telus but with Microsoft neglecting their Flash-wannabe plugin for years. Until the HTML5 replacement is out, you will likely have issues since both Apple and Microsoft have made fairly major changes in the way their OSes work.

I spent over an hour and a half with an agent today and still no solution.  I was told it is an issue with mac and the silverlight so until Telus can fix it no Optik on the go for those of us using Mac.  Guess we don't rate for internet tv.  Will never switch back to windows so guess it's goodbye to Telus.

Read the solution above works fine on a Mac. On a windows machine it pretty much plays instantly. When on my Mac it takes 20-30 sec before the video plays.

The entire optik on the go was the framework from microsoft who long sold out. Ericsson "media room" holds the cards now to get with the times and leave silverlight.
