One of the questions we’ve been getting for awhile is, “When is Wi-Fi Calling for Android coming?” Up until now, the answer in the TELUS Neighbourhood forums and in the Ideas section has been, “Coming soon.”

We’re happy to say that day has finally come and Wi-Fi Calling for Android has arrived, beginning with the LG G6.

What is Wi-Fi Calling?

Wi-Fi Calling is a feature on your TELUS Mobility cell phone that allows you to make calls and send messages over Wi-Fi instead of the cellular network. This works really well for people in rural areas that may not have cell coverage. Live in a basement suite or condo with weak cell signal? You’re going to love Wi-Fi calling.

What Phones Can I Use it On?

Starting today on the LG G6 with more Android devices to follow. We’ll keep this page updated as Wi-Fi Calling for Android rolls out, so make sure you check back.

Got the update on my LG G6 but get an error on the Telus page when trying to set it up. So not available yet

will it be available for all android phones or just the ones telus decides to support or only the ones they sell?

@Dash78 It is available and there shouldn't be any problems. Are you able to share the specific error so the team can look into it?

I get an error saying "My Account" app isn't activated. My account app has full permissions and is installed. So this was a let down.

Why is it taking so long for the Wifi calling to roll out. I have a S6 and a S7. Thought with the Galaxy series being a popular line for Telus, that they would be added sooner rather than later. I now wish I had went with a different carrier.

Why would they start with the LG G6 pretty sure they would sell a lot more Samsung phones than LG

Would most likely it was easier to intergrate LG First based on resources from them. I'm sure Samsung is happening as we speak but may not be as straight forward or requires firmware or hardware upgrades on the nodes which would take time.

I wish they would at least confirm that all current Android phones in their lineup will get it eventually, I don't want to buy a phone without this feature, but I also don't want an LG G6...

Hey @Scoto back in November you noted "Coming Soon" its now Feb 2018 - 1/4 of a year. S9 is almost available. STILL NO WIFI CALLING. We have been waiting 1 year in total for this feature. Was first announced and made available by all other carriers last spring.

I think you're spreading misinformation or have a really bad definition of soon.

I'm not sure that all other carriers do offer Wi-Fi calling for Samsung phones. I can tell you that we're still moving towards adding more devices. There are a variety of factors that affect the timelines but we know it's important to you and, as promised earlier, I will advise as soon as there is more information I can share.

As CPTofino mentioned, this is a bit of an unfortunate situation. I live in an apartment where I get very little reception and often no service. I've had an S7 Edge on Telus the last 2 years and have been patiently waiting for them to implement wifi calling. My contract is up for renewal in a month - if I don't see something soon, I'll be jumping ship. This is insanity.

Is there somewhere we can find the settings needed to attempt to enable WiFi Calling? I don't have a G6 but LG's engineering menu dialer codes are well known. Getting the settings would allow others to try in their devices. I would gladly try it out in my V30 H933. I know this is possible to do because I have swapped the SIM from my V30+ H932 from T-Mobile USA and used the settings to enable T-Mobile's WiFi Calling on the H933 to see if it actually functioned. Telus obviously has different settings and I don't know anyone with a G6 to get those settings from.

I suspect we won't see anything on Samsung devices until oreo has rolled out and they can test it, so probably another couple months.

I have a samsung galaxy s8+. Just recieved the oreo update today and wifi calling is now visible in the phone settings but I can click on it and go through the setup with telus msging me back an activation code, emergency contact location... but the feature never turns on. I guessing maybe soon they will activate this on their side.

did you go back in your phone settings and check. when I go through the setup process and it say its working, I go back into the phone settings and its turned off. If I try to turn it on it jusy goes through the same process and never actually turns on

****UPDATE: TELUS ANDROID WIFI CALLING IS NOW ENABLED ON SAMSUNG GALAXY S8+****

Hi all, heavily anticipated and as we've all been patiently waiting! So today, on my Telus S8+ I downloaded that new update which is Oreo. I went to phone settings in the dialler, and at the bottom the Wifi Feature was there and I registered it and confirm it is now working. They have not updated what phones are supported but in order to use it, Ensure the following

1) Make sure to contact TELUS and ensure WIFI Calling + VoLTE is enabled

2) Make sure you download the latest android oreo which was literally just released.

3) Goto your dialer, click the 3 Dots on the top right clock settings and goto the bottom enable WIFI Calling and voila!

Their website still says G6 , and they have no updated it. I am not sure what other phones are supported but I am so happy as I was losing hope.

I got it working after 2 days of calling tech support, who aparently did nothing as they said. But either way I can confirm that it is working on the S8+

I just got the S9+ and VoLTE is working but no wifi calling option? and I have downloaded all the updates, does anyone know why? I got my s9+ from the samsung store and like I said, VoLTE/IMS is working but no options for wifi calling?

Currently WiFi calling is only available for the LG G6. There will be updates in the future. however, we don't currently have a date we are able to provide.

LG's V30 now officially supports WiFi Calling on model H933 after updating to 93320e, the Oreo 8.0 update, via LG Bridge.

So it seems that it's was made available for the S8+ but apparently, Telus doesn't even know this. Because their page is not updated and their Mods have no clue, nor does their customer support agents.
