If you check your Telus Mobility account, it should show when it thinks you were in the US. Were you within 5km of the US border in recent weeks? Some US carriers have strong antennas that push across the border affecting Canadian customers.

Telus also sends you a text message when it thinks you are in and out of the states.
One way to protect myself on my blackberry is a setting the phone to refuse or be prompted for roaming.

You can also set your network selection mode/carrier to Telus only instead of Automatic from your mobile network settings. That way it won't connect to roaming towers
