Is there a way that one can block certain numbers from texting my phone and running up my bill. This is urgent as I do not want to pay for texts I do not chose to receive.

We will soon be releasing a new tool to allow us to block text messages. Keep an eye on http://mobility.telus.com/en/BC/home/ for more information.
In the meantime you may want to consider looking into 3rd party apps. Some of them have the ability to filter and manage calls and text messages.

I think this is a great feature. Hopefully Telus also monitors these blocked numbers by multiple customers and use the information as a spam filter.

You can possibly get a wireless jammer, but the stuff will typically jam all phone call, textings and nextwork access.

It's not available yet. What phone model do you have? Some phones have the call/text rejection feature. With iphone on ios7, see here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5845. On most Android devices, it's under calling settings.

The message read:

This Telus Support page explains how to block SMS messages, "Stop receiving picture messages from certain numbers", http://mobility.telus.com/en/ON/Picture-and-Video-Messaging/how-to-000244.shtml. However I didn't actually use it as I can't figure out how to log in to www.telusmobility.com/snap. I'm have a Lumia 925 with Windows Phone 8 so I followed these instructions for phone-based blocking, http://blog.laptopmag.com/block-number-windows-phone-8.

Does anyone know if the apps/phone feature that blocks SMS actually refuses them (no SMS charge) or just deletes after receiving them (SMS charge)?
