How many choices do you get for new home phone number? Do they allow you some time for making the selection?

There is often a block of numbers of varying size, depending on how many of the block have already been consumed. You would choose from amongst these at time of order  / set-up of account. Remember that anyone else applying for a number with the same prefix will be drawing from the same block.

Just a warning... a few years ago when I got a new number (reactivated a disconnected phone).... I had more spam/nuisance calls than the old number.

If you are changing numbers to avoid spam... you might be getting more spam with the new number.
